checking the Fuel Shutoff Gate
Once the stove has been properly installed and plugged into
a grounded surge protector, you are nearly ready to begin
operation. Prior to the first use, however, it is necessary to
ensure the fuel shutoff gate is open.
Your Cumberland Stove is equipped with a fuel gate in the
hopper, which prevents fuel from entering into the auger.
This feature provides two important attributes to your stove:
1. If your auger mechanism requires service, the gate can be
closed to allow its removal without emptying the hopper
of fuel.
2. In an over-temp situation, the fuel gate will automatically
close and the auger will evacuate any material in the auger
housing.
Cumberland Stoves are shipped with the fuel gates open,
which ensures fuel enters the auger. however, during
shipping the fuel gate is susceptible to closing and may need
to be opened. You can determine if the fuel gate is closed by
opening the hopper. If the auger is visible at the bottom of
the hopper, the gate is open and you can proceed with the
initial operation.
If the auger is not visible, you will need to open the fuel
shutoff gate by performing the following instructions. If you
wish to service the auger, these procedures also allow you to
close the fuel shutoff gate.
