Charging System Inspection
Leakage Test
Turn the i g n ition switch off, a n d d iscon n ect the g ro u n d (-)
cable from the battery.
Connect the a m m eter (+) probe to the g ro u n d ca b l e a n d
the a m m eter (-) probe t o the battery (-) term i n a l .
With t h e i g n ition switch off, check for cu rrent leakage.
N OTE
When measu ring the cu rrent u s i n g a tester, set it to
•
a h ig h ra nge, a n d then bring the ra nge down to a n
appropriate leve l . Cu rrent flow l a rger t h a n t h e ra n g e
selected may blow o ut the fu s e i n the teste r.
Wh i l e meas u r i n g c u rrent, do n ot t u r n the i g n it i o n
•
switch O N . A sudden s u rge o f cu rrent m a y b l ow out
the fuse in the teste r.
Specified Current Leakage: 0.01 rnA max.
If cu rrent leakage exceeds the specified va l ue, a s h o rted
c i rc u it i s l i kely.
Regulated Voltage/ Ampere Inspection
If the engine m ust be running to do some work,
•
make sure the area is well-ventilated. Never run the
engine in an enclosed area.
The exhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxide
•
gas that may cause loss of consciousness and may
lead to death.
N OTE
Befo re perfo rm i n g t h i s test, be s u re t he batte ry i s

fu l l y cha rged a n d that the voltage betwee n its termi­
n a l s i s g reater than 1 3.0 V.
Sta rt the e n g i n e and wa rm it to ope rati n g te m pe ratu re,
then turn the i g n ition switch OFF .
Connect the m u lti meter betwee n the batte ry term i n a l s .
