ES3000 Advanced Concept Guide
1.1 Hardware Notes
The ES3000 Layer 2 Ethernet switch comes in two versions. One version provides power over Ethernet
(PoE) in accordance with IEEE standard 802.3af. This allows compatible Ethernet devices to obtain
power from the 10/100BaseT Ethernet wiring. The details of the PoE implementation are described
in
Chapter 4, PoE Power

The other version of the ES3000 switch does not provide power over Ethernet. The power features

The PoE and non-PoE versions of the ES3000 switch use different
versions of the bootcode and runtime software. Do not attempt to
use PoE software with a non-PoE switch. Do not attempt to use non-
PoE software with a PoE switch. Attempting to do so may render the
switch inoperable.
