5 Troubleshooting Procedures

In the unlikely event you encounter a problem using your SMCWUSB-N4 300 Mbps Wireless
USB Adapter, use the information in this chapter to identify and resolve the problem.
Your computer does not recognize the Adapter.
The Adapter may not be properly connected. Check that the Adapter is inserted properly into
the USB slot on your computer.
You accidentally clicked Cancel during the Installation procedure.
If you reboot your computer, Windows will detect the new hardware and restart the
Installation procedure.
The installation procedure did not begin when you inserted the driver CD-ROM.
Some programs may prevent the auto run feature of the Adapter's CD-ROM from starting
automatically. Close any open applications and reinsert the CD-ROM. If the CD-ROM still
refuses to auto run, run wizard.exe in the CD-ROM's root directory.
The Adapter does not work properly.
Remove the Adapter, and then reinsert it into the computer's USB slot.
On a Microsoft Windows operating system, check in Device Manager whether the USB slot
is activated. If it is not activated, activate it.
Increase the Adapter's transmit power level (see page 51).
The SMC WLAN icon does not appear in the Windows system tray.
The Adapter or the Adapter driver were not installed properly, or the device has been
deactivated in Device Manager.
Open Device Manager in the Control Panel and check that the Adapter exists and has been
activated.
