    G E T T I N G S T A R T E D The Monarch 9416 XL® is a desktop thermal direct printer. It can print labels, tags or receipts (with or without bar codes) in peel mode (one label at a time) or non-peel mode (labels in strips).

    A d d i t i o n a l D o c u m e n t a t i o n The printer uses Monarch Printer Control Language II (MPCL II) to create labels for printing. The Packet Reference Manual describes how to create format and batch packets for printing labels, how to configure the printer, and perform other advanced techniques.

    C o n n e c t i n g t h e P o w e r S u p p l y Caution: Do not touch the electrical connectors while setting up the printer. Electrostatic discharge can damage or destroy the printhead or electronic components.

    WARNING: The printer and power supply should never be operated in a location where either one can get wet. Personal injury could result.     For serial communication: Turn off the printer before connecting the cable. Connect a serial printer cable from the host to the serial port at the back of the printer. 9-pin USB Port Serial Port Secure the cable with the connecting screws. The factory defaults are 9600 Baud, 8-bit data frame, 1 stop bit, no parity, and DTR flow control.

    L o a d i n g L a b e l s f o r P e e l M o d e Peel mode separates the label from the backing paper while printing. Note: The minimum label length for peeling is 0.75- inches (19 mm).

    L o a d i n g F a n - F o l d S u p p l i e s Place a stack of fan-fold supplies behind the printer, label side up. Note: You may have to move the printer to allow room for the supply.
