COMPONENT SERVICABILITY
3. Install heat shield "B" vertically, with metal side
facing the front of the machine, over the suction tube
as shown in Fig. 2.
4. Apply Thermo-trap paste to completely cover the
slits in shield "A" and the slot in shield "B".
5. Apply Thermo-trap paste to the copper jumper
tubes about 1.5 in. from the epoxy joints (copper to
aluminum joints) to prevent the epoxy joints from
overheating.
6. Apply heat to soldered joints. Grasp copper jumper
tubes with pliers, pull and remove when solder is
molten.
7. Install replacement evaporator. Insert capillary and
suction tubess into copper jumper tubes on the
replacement evaporator.
8. Check to make sure that the heat shields are
properly in place. Add Thermo-trap paste to copper
jumper tubes about 1.5 in. from the epoxy joints, Fig.
3.
9. Hold suction jumper tube with pliers, apply heat to
suction jumper tube and slide suction tube into
jumper tube. Add additional solder material to assure
good braze joint. Also braze capillary tube joint to
evaporator jumper tube.
10. Remove heat shields and Thermo-trap paste.

DEFROST THERMOSTAT

Defrost thermostat de-energizes the heater during the
defrost cycle, when the frost has melted from the
evaporator, temperature begins to rise. Bimetal disc
opens switch contacts, when evaporator is cooled
contacts close. To check for continuity, while still
mounted to cold evaporator. Since normally
open,(except later stages of cycle) if found closed,
then replace. Evaporator will be blocked with frost,
defrost.
