Brake lever (Parking Brake)
The rear brake lever play as mea-
sured at the lever holder should
be 3 – 5 mm (0.1 – 0.2 in) when
the lever is lightly pulled in toward
the grip. This adjustment is nec-
essary for proper operation of the
rear brake lever and the parking
brake.
3 – 5 mm
(0.1 – 0.2 in)
Check the play every time before
riding and adjust it if necessary,
as follows:
1. Loosen the lock nut 1 and
turn in the adjuster 2 as far as
it will go.
2. Turn the adjuster 3 clockwise
or counterclockwise to obtain
the specified play.
3. Minor
adjustment
made with the adjuster 2.
4. Tighten the lock nut 1.
5. After adjusting the play, check
that the rear wheels roll freely
with the brake disengaged, the
transmission in neutral and the
rear wheels off the ground.
6. Set the parking brake and
check that the rear wheels are
locked by trying to move the
vehicle back and forth while it
is in neutral.
7. Readjust the rear brake lever
adjusting nut if the rear wheels
could not roll freely in step 5.
or if the rear wheels did not
lock in step 6.
Failure to adjust the parking
brake can be hazardous.
If the brake grabs or fails to
lock the wheels when engaged,
you may have an accident.
After adjusting the parking
brake, lift the rear wheels off
the ground and make sure they
spin freely with the brake
released. Also make sure the
rear wheels are locked when
the parking brake is set.
