Made through a partnership between Madonna ICARE and SportsArt Fitness, this product was built specifically for physical rehabilitation. Before this product is assembled or operated, we recommend that you famil- iarize yourself with this manual.

4. ASSEMBLE THE PRODUCT Follow instructions below to assemble this product. Note that in this manual the words “left” and “right” are used to refer to the product and its parts. As such, these designations correspond to the “left” and “right” sides of a person in position to exercise on this product.
STEP 2 Install the Safety Key Mechanism Follow instructions (a) through (c) to install the safety key mechanism. (a) Separate the safety key mechanism (A2a) upper and lower covers. Use screws (15) to secure the lower cover onto the main body (A1). Insert screw insert (16) into the square hole.
STEP 3 Install the Moving Parts Follow instructions (a) through (e) to install the moving parts. (a) Remove screws (21) from the stride arm attached to the main frame (A1). (b) Once slip the glide rail into (Part A), then place the pedal carriage lightly on the glide rail support.

STEP 3 Install the Moving Parts (d) Separate the roller covers (A7). Snap them together into place on the product. Then secure them with screws (21). (e) On the left side of the product, remove the screw (22) from the stride adjustment linkage.
STEP 4 Install Supports and Handlebars Follow steps (a) through (c) to secure the support tubes and horizontal handlebars into place. (a) Remove support tube screws (23)(24) from the main frame (A1). (b) Insert left and right support tubes (A8,A9) onto the axle area and base, and loosely secure them into place with screws (23,24).

STEP 4 Install Supports and Handlebars, Continued (c) Attach horizontal handlebars (A1a,A1b) onto the rotator axle, then push the sleeves on both handlebars inward. Align the screw holes on the handlebars and tighten up the screws (14) to the rotator axle. (Note: The left sleeve is longer and the right sleeve is shorter.) (Note: Make sure that horizontal handlebars can rotate as shown in the illustration with the check mark, not as shown in the illustration with the X...
STEP 5 Install the Stationary Handlebar Follow instructions (a) through (c) to install the stationary handlebar and secure the support tubes. (a) Remove screws (25) from the left and right support tubes (A8,A9). Insert the stationary handlebar (A2) into place on the support tubes. Use screws (25) to secure them.
STEP 6 Install Stoppers and Covers Follow steps (a) through (c) to install glide rail stoppers and covers. (a) Screw stoppers (12) into place on both glide rails. (b) Remove screws (27) from the frame (A1). (c) Snap pedestal covers (A3) together on the unit. Loosely secure screws (27), followed by screws (13).
STEP 7 Install the Footplates Follow steps (a) through (d) to install footplates. (a) Remove screws (28) (30) from the footplate mount on the pedal carriage and cushions as shown. (b) Set the footplate mount onto the cushion and secure the screws (30).
STEP 8 Move the Product into Place There are two techniques for moving this product. (a) One person: Grip the front base of the product and lift upward, then push the product into location for use. Be careful to avoid pinching fingers when setting the product down.
STEP 9 Level the Product For the user’s safety and the proper functioning of the product, this elliptical trainer must sit level on a flat floor. If necessary, adjust the levelers by following instructions (a) through (c) below. (a) Loosen the leveler nut. (b) Rotate the leveler foot downward so it firmly touches the floor.
Use screws (29) to secure it into place. Then insert the other end of the power cord into a proper power socket. This completes the assembly process of the ICARE E872MA elliptical trainer.
STEP 11 Fuse Replacement Instructions If the electrical current becomes excessive, the fuse on this product will break to protect other components. In this situation, follow instructions below to replace the fuse. (a) Press the fuse cap inward. (b) Rotate the cap counterclockwise. (c) The fuse and its cap will pop outward.
5. PREPARE FOR A WORKOUT PREPARATIONS Secure Safety Straps When using the product, first secure the front foot strap, then use the back foot strap wrap around the user’s ankle. Make sure both feet are secure to the pedal before operating the product.
PREPARATIONS Access Controls Resistance level and stride adjustments can be made via keys on the display and switches on the handles. The switch on the left handle controls resistance level functions. The switch on the right handle controls stride functions.
PREPARATIONS Adjust Handlebars (a) To adjust the angle of the horizontal handles, lift the handle lock mechanism, and rotate the horizontal handles. (b) After adjusting the position of the handles, release the handle lock mechanism to secure them into this position.
PREPARATIONS Keep Clear of Moving Parts This product has moving parts that could be a danger to people and animals. During use, do not insert hands or other objects into the stride adjustment slot, the opening in the rear cover, or other areas in which such action might present a hazard.
PREPARATIONS Prevent Unauthorized Operation To prevent unauthorized use of this product, follow instructions below. Remove a screw from beneath the safety mechanism. This allows for the removal of the safety key. When the safety key is not in place, the product cannot be operated.
PREPARATIONS Use Safety Features Safety mechanisms are built into this product to prevent accidents by stopping the equipment quickly when unexpected incidents or sudden changes occur. When the safety features are activated, the exercise window will show “SAFETYKEY STOP”. At this time, the product will stop operating. If the ICARE program has been activated, the ICARE motor will stop operating.

6. UNDERSTAND THE ICARE E872MA DISPLAY DISPLAY Overview The ICARE E872MA elliptical trainer is designed for user convenience. With better feedback about your workout, you get better results. The following explains the display key and window functions. Please read this manual, understand the display functions, and thereby get optimum enjoyment and benefit from this product.

DISPLAY Keys (Continued) 0 – 9 numeric keys – Press these keys to directly input numbers, rather than pressing ▲/▼ keys. Decimal key – Press this key to insert a decimal point into setting values. ▲/▼ keys – Press these keys to adjust settings up or down. Hold these keys to change settings more quickly.
DISPLAY Keys (Continued) STOP/PAUSE/HOLD TO RESET – During a workout, press this key to pause. Workout information will stop accruing. Current workout information will continue to appear, along with the message “PAUSED” & ”PRESS START TO RESUME”. There is a 10 minute pause limit. Remaining inactive after 10 minute period, display will reset and return to startup banner screen.
OPERATION Start a Workout Program (Continued) 2. “SELECT GOAL” will appear on the exercise feedback window. There are three types of workout goals: TIME, DISTANCE, and CALORIE. Press the key of your preferred workout goal. ● The TIME setting range is from 5:00 to 99:00, with a default value of 30:00.
OPERATION Workout Programs The following explains features of the workout programs. MANUAL This program allows you to manually control resistance. In manual mode, simply press LEVEL ▲/▼ keys to control resistance. RANDOM This program provides a near infinite number of randomly generated workouts. A new workout illustration appears each time the RANDOM key is pressed.

OPERATION Workout Programs (Continued) INTV There are three interval programs: 1:1, 1:2, 2:2. Each interval program includes two segments, a work segment and a rest segment. Because you determine resistance for both segments, your work segment could be the first or the second segment, depending on your preference.

OPERATION Workout Programs (Continued) 4. Establish the steps per minute (SPM) range limit as follows. When “ENTER SPM RANGE” appears on the exercise window, press ▲/▼ keys or numeric keys (0 through 9) to adjust the SPM range. While your preferred SPM range limit appears on screen, press the ENTER key to confirm your choice.
OPERATION Workout Programs (Continued) ● For safe operation, the motor will not start unless the SPM is less than 5 when ICARE first starts. If the SPM is greater than 5, a message “STAND STILL UN- TIL ICARE STARTS” will appear. Make sure you stand still and hold on to the handrail to get ready for motor starting.
OPERATION Wired remote message display instruction ● While the machine is in Pause mode, wired remote SPM setting window will display “-PAUSE-”. ● When the safety key is removed, wired remote SPM setting window will display “ ”. 8. ABOUT HEART RATE DETECTION Heart rate detection functions are selected at the time of purchase.
CAUTION: Heart rate detection and transmission devices have been known to interfere with the operation of pacemakers, possibly endangering human life. If you have a pacemaker, exercise under your doctor’s supervision; take a test to ensure your safety during the simultaneous use of the pacemaker and heart rate detection devices.
The main display will shut off, and keys will remain lit. To reactivate the unit, press a key or exercise on it. ERROR 1 - Indication: The ICARE E872MA motor is operating but no speed sensor signal is detected. Under this condition, the ICARE E872MA motor will not operate.

MAINTENANCE Infrared Sensor Angle Adjustment, Cont. Rotate the angle of the sensor. B: Loosen but do not remove screws on the top of the infrared sensor. Rotate the angle of the sensor. Once the LED lights up, tighten the screws to secure the sensor into place. (c).
MAINTENANCE Lubrication Please follow instructions (a) through (h) to lubricate the product. (a) Remove the cap that covers the lubrication hole. (b) Use an automobile grease gun to apply red lithium bearing grease into the zerk fitting on the product. (c) After applying lubricant, detach and remove the grease gun.
MAINTENANCE Cleaning the Glide Rails Clean the glide rails once a day as follows: (a) Use a clean, lint-free cloth to wipe dust and debris off the glide rails. (b) Operate the product to inspect it and to determine where dirt might remain on the glide rails.
MAINTENANCE Task List (Elliptical Trainers) Like cars, fitness products require maintenance. Regular maintenance extends product life, and failure to maintain products can void the manufacturer’s warranty. Copy the maintenance log sheet, and record maintenance work for each fitness product.
