This topic provides instructions on how to install the ThinkServer 8708EM2 RAID Adapter (hereafter referred
to as the RAID controller within this topic) and the battery card assembly for this RAID controller.
Product description
The RAID controller enables you to create the tiered storage with SATA hard disk drives, SAS hard disk
drives, or both. With the MD2 low-profile form factor and two internal mini SAS connectors, it enables you to
attach up to 32 hard disk drives to high-density servers and systems for maximum design flexibility. It also
supports all key RAID levels, including RAID 6 and RAID 60, to provide increasing fault tolerance.
Note: RAID 50 and RAID 60 are only available for more than six hard disk drives.
Your option package includes:
• ThinkServer 8708EM2 RAID Adapter
• One 400 mm (15.7 inches) mini SAS signal cable
• Two 630 mm (24.8 inches) mini SAS signal cables (for your server model, these cables will not be used)
• The user guide for the option
Note: To use the RAID controller, you need to install the ThinkServer 8708EM2 RAID Battery (product
number: 67Y2629) on the RAID controller. The ThinkServer 8708EM2 RAID Battery does not come with the
RAID controller. You need to separately order it.
