5. STARTING THE ENGINE (TOP-MOUNT
TYPE)
START
3. Turn the ignition switch key to the
START position, and release the key
when the engine starts.
The starter motor consumes a large
amount of current. Do not run it
continuously for more than 5 seconds
at a time.
If the engine does not start within 5
seconds, wait at least IO seconds
before using the starter motor again.
Do not turn the ignition switch key to rhe
start position while the engine is
running. This can damage the starter
motor andflywheel.

4. If the outside temperature is above
41 "F (5°C). run the engine for 2 or 3
minutes before starting out.
If the outside temperature is below
4 1 "F (YC), push the throttle button
then move the control lever forward or
aft to open the throttle and achieve
approximately 2,000 t-pm. Run the
engine for at least 10 minutes at 2,000
'pm before starting out.
Failure to completely warm up the
engine will result in poor engine
performance.
The control lever will not shift into
gear until the control lever is returned
to the neutral position.
