Processor and Heatsink Installation

When handling the processor, avoid placing direct pressure on the label
area of the fan. Also, do not place the serverboard on a conductive
surface, which can damage the BIOS battery and prevent the system
!
from booting up. Always connect the power cord last and remove it fi rst
before adding, removing or changing any hardware components.
Installation Procedure
Follow the procedures as listed below to install the motherboard into a chassis.
1.
Install the processor(s) and the heatsink(s).
2.
Install the motherboard in the chassis.
3.
Install the memory and add-on cards.
4.
Finally, connect the cables and install the drivers.
Installing the Processors
1.
Begin by removing the cover plate
that protects the CPU. Lift the lever
on the CPU socket until it points
straight up. With the lever raised, lift
open the silver CPU retention plate.
2.
Use your thumb and your index
fi nger to hold the CPU. Locate and
align pin 1 of the CPU socket with
pin 1 of the CPU. Both are marked
with a triangle.
