Preventive Maintenance

To keep the printer in optimum condition and prevent printer problems, vacuum the printer mechanism to
remove dust and paper debris and regularly clean the exterior case with denatured alcohol. After cleaning
the unit, check that it is properly lubricated as described under Lubrication , below. Also inspect the springs
and rollers to see that they are operating properly.
Disconnect the printer from the external AC power source before performing any maintenance
procedures.
Do not use thinner, trichloroethylene, or ketone-based solvents on the plastic components of the
printer.
Lubrication
Table 6-1 describes the recommended lubricants. These lubricants have been tested extensively and
have been found to comply with the needs of this printer. Using other lubricants may cause the printer to
malfunction, especially at low temperatures.
Never use lubricants other than those specified below. Using other lubricants may damage the
printer and components.

Apply lubricant to the printer at the points shown in Figures 6-1 through 6-5. Table 6-2 lists each lubrication
point along with its recommended lubricant. Before applying lubricant, make sure the surface to be
lubricated is clean. Do not apply too much lubricant, because this may damage nearby components.
Note:
Apply lubricant before reassembling the printer.
