Preinstallation Considerations
Thermostat Location – The thermostat should be used indoors only. It
should be mounted on an inner wall 48" from the floor, in a location with
freely circulating air, and where it will be responsive to changes in room
temperature. Avoid mounting near heat generating appliances (i.e. TV,
heater, refrigerator), or in direct sunlight.
Humidifiers – The humidify output connects directly to 24VAC oper-
ated humidifiers. No other connection or interlock is required. Several
installer-selectable operating modes are available as described in the
Humidity Control Operation Section.
Dehumidifiers – The dehumidify output connects to the dehumidify input
on variable–speed furnaces and fan coils. Additional dehumidification is
done by controlling the compressor. Several installer-selectable operat-
ing modes are available as described in the Humidity Control Operation
Section.
Outdoor Temperature Sensor – The use of an outdoor temperature in
conjunction with the TH170 will improve the performance and increase
the number of humidity control modes available to the installer. Run two
wires from the TH170 to an outdoor location. The outdoor sensor can be
mounted to the outdoor unit and existing control wires may be used for
its connection.
