8. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
8.1) Cooling system fault analysis
Faults in the cooling system can be caused by the compressor, condenser, ventilator fan,
expansion valve, evaporator, tubing or a host of interrelated problems. All cooling components work
together in a single complex system, and in the case of a fault, the whole system should be examined
by an experienced and qualified technician using an approach of "listen, touch, observe and analyze".
Using this methodology, the technician will first listen to the operation of key components such as
compressor and ventilator to establish whether they sound normal.
Secondly, the technician will use his sense of touch to determine if cooling and heating are
located in the correct areas, determine vibrations etc
Thirdly, the technician will use sight to determine further faults. He will check the low and high
pressures, will check for frosting of low pressure pipes etc.
Lastly, the technician will analyze his previous findings, and based on refrigeration theory will proceed
to apply corrective action.
