5.4.3 Replacing the interconnect in the rack

After removing the interconnect and swapping the line cards, you are ready to
replace the interconnect in the rack. You insert the interconnect chassis from the
rear of the rack, with its front panel (the connection ports) facing the rear of the
rack. There are two procedures for this operation, depending upon the size of the
interconnect. Both procedures are explained in this section.
Reinstalling a 5U Chassis
To reinstall a 5U system interconnect into the rack, use the following procedure:
1. Lift and align the interconnect so that it is level with the retainer brackets
on the rack.
2. Use a #1 Phillips screwdriver to replace the four 6-32 x .375 in Phillips
pan-head screws that secure each retainer bracket to the chassis.
3. Slide the interconnect into the rear of the rack until its front brackets stop
against the rear rack columns.
4. Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to replace the two M6 x 16-mm pan-head screws
from each front bracket. Secure each front bracket to the cage nuts that are
mounted on the rack columns. Secure each front bracket to the cage nuts
that are mounted on the rack columns.
Reinstalling a 9U Chassis
To reinstall a 9U system interconnect into the rack, use the following procedure:
1. Slide the interconnect into the rear of the rack.
2. Working at the rear of the rack, replace the right-hand bracket to the right
rack column (Figure 5-12).
3. Working at the rear of the rack, replace the left-hand (angled) bracket to the
track (Figure 5-11). The correct orientation of the bracket is with its flange
facing inward toward the interconnect's ports.
4. Working at the front of the rack, replace the hold-down bracket on the
right-hand track (Figure 5-10).
5. At the rear of the rack, reconnect the fiber-optic cables, using the labels to
determine the appropriate ports.
6. Route the cables into the eight hook-and-loop cable management straps,
located on both sides of the interconnect. Each cable management strap
provides support for 24 fiber-optic cables.
7. At the front of the rack, reconnect the interconnect's power supply cable.
8. At the front of the rack, replace the blanking plate (Figure 5-9), that covers
the rear of the interconnect.
9. Power on the interconnect by using the breaker switch at the PDU.
