5.4.2 Swapping the line cards

When replacing an interconnect chassis, the monitoring line card and all switch
and spine cards must be removed from the current interconnect and moved into
the new chassis. Before starting the removal process, you must prepare the new
interconnect for the line cards.
Place the new interconnect chassis on the same work surface as the chassis that
is being replaced. The interconnect is shipped with generic rack mount brackets
that are screwed to the side of its chassis, as shown in Figure 5-13. The chassis
also has blanking panels covering every slot. Take the following steps to prepare
the new interconnect for the line cards:
1.
Remove both rack mount brackets (callout 1) by unscrewing the flat-head
countersunk fasteners at the side of the chassis (callout 2). Discard the
brackets; they are not used with this cluster.

Remove all blanking panels. Set aside or store for later use.
A blanking panel is removed and installed in the same way as a line card.
It has a pair of handles that lock the card in place and serve as a lever for
inserting or removing the line card. The handles snap toward the middle
when installed. To remove a blanking panel, press the red tabs to unlock the
handles. Turn both handles outward together. You should be able to see and
feel the lever action as the panel is ejected toward you. To replace the panel,
reverse the steps. Be sure to start with the handles in their out position.

Any unused slots in the interconnect must be covered with a
blanking panel.
When removing and replacing line cards, begin with the topmost slot and work
down through the chassis. The most efficient process for swapping line cards
is to remove one card from the old chassis and immediately insert it into the
corresponding slot in the new chassis. See Section 5.1 for installing a line
monitoring card. See Section 5.2 for instructions for removing and replacing line
cards.
