    ENGLISH 1. PRELIMINARY STEPS ATTACHING THE STRAP Slip the thin piece of the camera strap through the small hole on the left side of the camera and leave a loop. Slide the thick part of the strap through this loop and pull tight.

    ENGLISH TURNING ON THE CAMERA Before using the camera, you must turn the pow er on. First press the POWER button to turn the pow er on. Pressing this button a second time will turn the power off. \ When you turn your camera on, the lens cov er opens and the display appears on the LCD.

    CHECKING THE BATTERY To determine the capacity of the bat tery in the camera, turn the camera on and check the bat tery status on the LCD pan el. a Lit b Lit c Blinks : The shutter cannot be released c Check the battery power level before you use the camera.

    ENGLISH SETTING THE DATE Setting the date Turn the camera on and then press the DATE but ton. \ The “Year” blinks and the date setting mode is entered. You can set: Year : ’04 to ’34 (2004 to 2034) Month : 1 to 12 Day : 1 to 31 Time : 0 to 23 hours;...
  • Page 15 ENGLISH To cancel the date setting mode, press the DATE/SEL button after chang ing the “Minute”. \ To set the time (hour or minute), press the DATE/SEL button when the time sig nal indi- cates zero. c The year, month, and day will change to- geth er with the hour and minute.

    ENGLISH 2. USING THE CAMERA LOADING THE FILM Your camera uses standard 35mm film. Almost all 35mm films will have a DX code symbol on the film box and on the film holder itself. Information you will see includes: : Number of pictures : DX code symbol : Film speed (sensitivity to light or ISO rating)
  • Page 19 ENGLISH Check that there is no film in the cam- era and that the coun ter is not showing. c Do not open the back while the film is loaded. Before taking out the film, re fer to page 30. a Slide the back lock in the direction of the arrow as shown in the picture at left.

Check that the end of the film is within the green mark. c If the film should be pulled out too far, take out the film and turn the longer end of the spool slowly to rewind some of the ex posed film and adjust the end to the cor rect length to reach the green mark.
  • Page 21 ENGLISH Close the back. \ The film advances automatically. c The type, number of pictures, and film speed that has been loaded may be checked with the film confirmation window. Check the counter (telling the number of pictures remaining). If the film is not loaded correctly, “E” blinks on the LCD and the shutter cannot be re- leased.

    ENGLISH TAKING PHOTOS Turn the camera on and hold it firmly us- ing both hands as shown in the picture. \ When taking vertical pic tures, hold the cam- era with the flash unit at the top. Before taking important, once-in-a-lifetime pic tures such as weddings or special events, take a few test shots to make sure your cam- era is working correctly.

At these times, use the Auto-focus Lock set tings ( p.27) or the Land scape Mode setting ( p.38).     ENGLISH USING THE AUTO-FOCUS LOCK In the example shown at left, the AF frame is off the subject. In this case, the lens will not fo cus on the subject but on the background. Move the camera to position the AF frame over the subject.

Under low light, the pu pils of the eye get bigger for better vision. Red-eye is caused by light from the flash en ter ing the eyes and be- ing re flect ed back to the cam era lens.
