Corded Buttonholes

Presser foot:
Use this procedure when you want to achieve a tailored,
more attractive raised buttonhole.
Use at least 40 cm (15˝) of havy thread as filler cord.
Try a practice buttonhole first.

Set the automatic buttonhole foot R on the foot holder.
With the buttonhole foot raised, hook the filler cord on
the spur at the back of the buttonhole foot.
Bring the ends toward you under the buttonhole foot
until they clear the front end.
Hook the filler cord into the forks on the front of foot
R to hold them tight.

Lower the needle into the garment where the button
hole will start and lower the foot.
Sew the buttonhole according to the buttonhole sewing
instructions on page 35.
Each side of the buttonhole and the back bartack will
be sewn over the filler cord.
Remove the fabric from the machine and cut the
sewing threads.

Pull the left end of the filler cord to tighten it.
Thread the end through a darning needle, draw to the
bottom side of the fabric and cut.
