The Stitch
and Its Uses
This
zigzag
variation
is
very
useful
in
garment
construction
and
in
finishing
raw
edges of any sewing
project.
Here's How
1.
The
black
ridge
and
brush
and
the
guide
wires
on the
overedge
foot
keep
the edge neat and the fabric
straight.
2.
Place
your
fabric
so that
the
double
guide
wires come to the edge.
NOTE:
These
wires
keep
light weight
fabric
from
rolling
into
a
ridge
and
hold
medium
weight
fabric
flat.
The
machine
will
stitch
over
these
wires.
The black
ridge and brush
will
keep
the loose
threads
in so that
the
needle can stitch
over them.

3.
As
you
sew,
be sure your
fabric
edge
pushes
against
the
black
ridge and brush guide.
4.
When
you
stop
sewing,
remove
the
fabric
by
drawing
it
to the
back
and
out.
The
fabric
will
catch
on the
wire
guides
if you
pull it toward
you.
For overcasting
folded
fabric:
You
can also fold
the raw edge of the
seam and overcast.
1.
Start
the fold
by sliding
it under
the
needle
and
lowering
the
needle.
NOTE:
Be sure
your
needle
is in the
le f._t position.
2.
Lower
the
presser
foot
so that
both
guide wires
are on the fabric.
3.
Fold
the fabric
to the
left
1/8""
as you
feed
it
into
the machine
and stitch.
Helpful
Hints
Start
overcasting
about
1/8"
inside
the raw corner
of your
seam.
If you
start
right
at the edge, the fabric
will
bunch
up and the stitches
will
become
tangled.
