The Stitch
and Its Uses
This
zigzag
variation
is
very
useful
in
garment
construction
and in
finishing
raw
edges of any sewing
project.
Here's How
1,
The
black
ridge
and
brush
and
the
guide
wires
on the overedge
foot
keep
the edge neat and the fabric
straight.
2.
Place
your
fabric
so that
the
double
guide wires
come to the edge,
ridge and
brush guide
NOTE:
These wires
keep light weight
fabric
from
rolling
into
a
ridge
and
hold
medium
weight
fabric
flat.
The
machine
wilt
stitch
over
these
wires.
The black
ridge
and brush
will
keep the
loose threads
in so that
the
needle can stitch
over them.
For overcasting
folded
fabric:
You
can a]so fold
the raw edge of the
seam and overcast.
1.
Start
the fold
by
sliding
it under
the
needle
and
lowering
the
needle,
NOTE:
Be sure
your
needle
is in the
3_
4.
As
you
sew,
be sure
your
fabric
edge
pushes
against
the
black
ridge and brush guide,
When
you
stop
sewing,
remove
the
fabric
by
drawing
it
to the
back
and
out,
The
fabric
wilt
catch
on the
w_re guides
if you
pull
it toward
you,
left position.
2.
Lower
the
presser
foot
so that
both
guide wires are on the fabric,
3.
Fold
the
fabric
to
the left
1/8"
as you
feed
it
into the
machine
and stltch.

Hints
Start
overcasting
about
1/8"
inside
the raw corner
of your
seam.
If you
start
right
at the edge, the fabric
will
bunch
up and the stitches
will become
tangled.
