Step 3 Frame a Picture
Using
the
Zoom
Use tile zoom control to activate optical zoom.
• To zoom in on the subject, rotate the zoom control
to T (telephoto).
• To zoom out for a wider shot, rotate the zoom
control to W (wide-angle). When you turn the
camera on, the zoom moves to the maximum
wide-angle position.
• Rotating the zoom control all the way in either
direction will adjust the zoom quickly, while rotating
the control partially will adjust the zoom slowly
(except when recording movies).
• A zoom indicator is displayed atthe top of the
monitor when the zoom control is rotated.

When the camera is zoomed in to tile maximum optical zoom position, rotating
and holding tile zoom control at T triggers digital zoom.

Digital Zoom and Interpolation
Unlike optical
zoom,
digital
zoom
uses a digital
imaging
process
known
as interpolation
to magnify
images,
resulting
in slight
deterioration
of pictu re quality
according
to the image
mode

71) and
digital
zoom magnification.
Interpolation
is applied
at zoom
positions
beyond
_
when taking
still pictures.
When zoom
is increased
beyond
the _
position,
interpolation
is initiated
and the zoom
indicator
turns yellow to indicate
that interpolation
is being
applied,
The position
of _
moves to the right as image size decreases,
allowing
for confirmation
of the zoom
positions
at which
shooting
without
interpolation
is possible
at the current
image
mode
setting.
