SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENT
STORAGE
A
ARNING: Never store the
Edgor indoors with fuel In the
fuel tank. Never store In an en-
closed, poorly ventilated area where
fumes could reach an open flame, a
spark or • pilot light as on a furnace, ws.
tar heater or clothes dryer.

ARNING:
Do not remove gaS-
oline while inside a building,
near a fire, or while you smoke.
Gasoline fumes can cause an explosion
or a fire.
When the Edger is put in storage for thirty
days or more, follow the steps below to
make sure the Edger is in good condition the
following season.
Edger
Completelycleanthe Edger.
Check the Edgerfor wom or damaged
pads. Tightenall loose hardware.
Applya smallamountof engineoilto all
movingpads, psrticulady the wheels.
Putthe Edgerin a buildingthat has good
vanttiation.
Cover the Edgerwitha suitableprotec-
tive coverthatdoes not retainmoisture.
Do not use plastic.
IMPORTANT: Never cover the Edgar while
the engine and exhaust areas are still
warm.
NOTE: A yearly checkup or tune-up by a
Sears Service Center is a good way to
make sure that your Edger will _ovldo
maximum performance for the next sea-
son.
Engine
IMPORTANT:It Is important to prevent
gum deposits from forming In fuel system
parts such as the carburetor, fuel filter,
fuel hose, and tank during storage. Also,
using alcohol-blended
fuels (called gaso-
hoi, ethanol or methanol) can attract
molsturs which leads to aeparstlon end
formation of acids during storage. Acidic
gas can damage the fuel system of an an-
gins while In storage.
To prevent engine damage when the Edger
is in storage for 30 days or more, follow the
steps below:
Let the engine run until it is out of gaso-
line.
If youdo not wantto removethe gaso-
line. adda fuelstabilizerto any gasoline
left in the fueltank. A fuel stabilizerwill
minimizegum depositsandacids. If the
fueltank is almostempty,mix the fuel
stabilizerwithfresh gasolinein a sepa-
rate container and addthe mixtureto the
fuel tank. Alwaysfollowthe instructions
on the stabilizercontainer.Startthe an-
gins. Letthe enginerunfor 10 minutes
to allow the mixtureto roachthe carbu-
rotor.
Change the engine oil. See "How To
Change The Engine Oil" in the Mainte-
nance section.
Lubdcatathe piston/cylindar a res. This
can bedone byfirstremovingthe spark
plug andsquirtings smallamountof
clean engineoilintothe sparkplug hole.
Then, coverthe sparkplug holewitha
ragto absorboilspray.Next, rotatathe
engineby pullingthe startertwo or throe
Umes. Finally, i nstallthe sparkplugand
attachthe sparkplugwire.
Storethe Edgerin the operatingposition
withthe wheelsdown. If the Edgeris
storedin any other position, o ilfrom the
crankcasewillenterthe cylinderand
cause a sentise problem.
