ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
MAKING
ELECTRICAL
CONNECTIONS
Effective
January
1, 1996, the National
Electrical
Code requires
that new, but not
existing,
construction
utilize
a four-conductor
connection
to an electric
range.
When
installing
an electric
range
in new
construction,
follow
the instructions
in NEW
CONSTRUCTION
AND FOUR-CONDUCTOR
BRANCH
CIRCUIT
CONNECTION.
You must
use a three-wire,
single-phase
AC 208Y/120
Volt or 240/120
Volt, 60 Hertz
electrical
system
with
separate
ground.
If you connect
to aluminum
wiring,
properly
installed
connectors
approved
for use with
aluminum
wiring
must
be used.
New
construction
and four-conductor
branch
circuit connection
• When
installing
in new construction,
or
• When
installing
in a mobile
home,
or
• When
local
codes
do not permit
grounding
through
neutral:
4-Conductor
Branch Circuit
When
connecting
the cooktop
to a
4-conductor
circuit,
connect
the red leads
of the cooktop
and the power
supply
to the
branch
circuit
red lead; connect
the black
leads to each other.
Connect
the cooktop
white
lead to the power
supply
and branch
circuit
neutral
leads, which
are white
or gray.
Ground
the unit
by connecting
the green
conductor
of the cooktop
to the bare or green
leads
of the power
supply
and branch
circuit
(ground
leads).

installing
in existing
construction
built
prior
to January
1, 1996, and if permitted
by
local codes:
3-Conductor
Branch Circuit
When
connecting
cooktop
to a 3-conductor
circuit,
connect
the red leads
of the cooktop
and the power
supply
to the branch
circuit
red lead; connect
the black leads to each
other.
Connect
the green
and white
leads of
the cooktop
to the power
supply
and branch
circuit
neutral
leads, which
are white
or gray.
