Writing Punctuation Marks

When you write a character, you are aware — and can see on-screen — exactly what
you intended to write. Handwriter however, might interpret what you wrote
differently. This is especially likely with punctuation marks, if you write them alone.
For example, a comma by itself could look like a right parenthesis. Ensure correct
recognition of punctuation marks by writing them in the context of other characters.

Spacing Between Characters and Words

By default, Handwriter automatically inserts a space between words as they are
recognized.
To manually insert a space after words have been recognized, position the cursor
where you want the space, then write the space gesture (-).
Stop Handwriter from automatically inserting a space by turning off this feature in
the Advanced section in Recognizer Properties dialog box.

Tips for Using the Recognizer

Use the following tips to help ensure that Handwriter recognizes all of your
characters.
Be distinct: Some characters resemble one another. For example, a "5" can look like
an "S", a "U" can look like a "V", etc. When you write characters, pay special
attention to the order and direction of your strokes; this is one of the ways
Handwriter recognizes what you write.
Separate your characters: Handwriter recognizes upper- and lowercase printed
characters. Except for the connected pairs, write each character separately.
Distinguish uppercase from lowercase: When you write case-identical letters, make
uppercase letters twice as big as lowercase letters. Handwriter uses a dictionary that
favors lowercase letters. If you are using a string of characters with an unusual mix of
upper- and lowercase letters, you can improve recognition by turning off the spell
checker. For instructions, see "Customizing Recognition".
When writing an uppercase "K", draw the height of the right stroke even with or
higher than the left stroke.
