Flexible Disk Controller
IDE Disk Controller
Mounting Rails
Supported Drives
1 Product Overview and Features
Product Features
The integrated flexible disk controller is on the ISA bus and supports two
devices. Flexible disk drives and tape drives can be connected to this
controller.
The integrated IDE hard disk controller is on the PCI bus. This controller has
two channels, each with a separate data cable and system board connector.
Each channel supports up to two devices.
The primary channel is marked HDD on the system board and is
recommended for hard disk drives. Connecting a CD-ROM drive to this
channel is not recommended, as the CD-ROM drive can slow down the
transfer rate of a faster IDE device.
On the primary channel data cable, the inside device connector is used for
the master (bootable) drive, and the outside (or end) device connector for
the slave drive. This is true as long as the Cable Select (CS) jumper on the
IDE device is set (default factory configuration).
The secondary channel is marked CD-ROM on the system board and has red
device connectors. This channel is for a supplementary hard disk drive or
CD-ROM drive. The cable has one device connector, allowing a single IDE
device to be connected.
To install non-HP drives (hard disk drives, tape drives, CD-ROM drives) in
the front access slots, the Mounting Rails Kit 5063-7922 must be ordered.
This kit contains two sets of rails, one for a 3.5-inch drive and one for a 5.25-
inch drive.
