System Board
WARNING: Before working inside your computer, read the safety

wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal
surface (such as a connector on the back of the computer).
CAUTION: Only a certified service technician should perform repairs on
your computer. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell™
is not covered by your warranty.
CAUTION: To help prevent damage to the system board, remove the main
battery (see "Removing the Battery Pack" on page 11) before working
inside the computer.
CAUTION: Handle components and cards by their edges, and avoid
touching pins and contacts.

Removing the System Board

1.
Follow the instructions in "Before You Begin" on page
2.
Remove the battery pack (see "Removing the Battery Pack" on page
3.
Remove the compartment door (see "Removing the Compartment Door" on
page 14).
4.
Remove the hard drive(s) (see "Removing the Hard Drive(s)" on page
5.
Disconnect the processor thermal fan cable from the system board
connector (see "Removing the Processor Thermal Fan" on page 22).
6.
Disconnect the coin-cell battery cable from the system board connector (see
"Removing the Coin-Cell Battery on page 25).
7.
Remove the memory module(s) (see "Removing the Memory Module(s)" on
page 28).
8.
Remove the palm rest (see "Removing the Palm Rest" on page
9.
Remove the center control cover (see "Removing the Center Control Cover"
on page 33).
10.
Remove the keyboard (see "Removing the Keyboard" on page
11.
Remove the left and right brackets (see "Removing the Brackets" on
page 47).
12.
Remove the magnesium cover (see "Removing the Magnesium Cover" on
page 50).
