A change in the memory configuration
occurred. This message might appear after
you add or remove memory.

The electrically erasable programmable
read-only memory cyclic redundancy check
(EEPROM CRC) #1 is damaged.
177 and 178
A security hardware error occurred.
184
The power-on password information stored
in the computer has been removed.
185
The drive startup sequence information is
corrupted.
187
The VPD serial number is not set.
Note: The system serial number is set in
the VPD EEPROM at the time of
manufacturing. If the system board has
been replaced, the system serial number will
be invalid and must be reset.
188
The EEPROM CRC #2 is damaged.
189
An attempt has been made to access the
computer with an incorrect password three
times.
Action
1. If POST error message 289 also occurred, follow
the actions for the 289 POST error code first.
2. If you just installed or removed memory, run the
Configuration/Setup Utility program, and save the
new configuration settings.
3. Reseat the DIMMs.
4. Replace the following components one at a time,
in the order shown, restarting the computer each
time:
a. DIMMs
b. (Trained service technician only) System board
1. If the Remote Supervisor Adapter II is installed,
make sure that the latest firmware is installed.
2. (Trained service technician only) Replace the
system board.
1. Run the Configuration/Setup Utility program.
2. (Trained service technician only) Replace the
system board.
1. Run the Configuration/Setup Utility program, select
Load Default Settings, and save the settings.
2. Reseat the battery.
3. Replace the battery.

system board.

1. Restart the computer.
2. Update the BIOS code to set the serial number.

Restart the computer and enter the administrator
