Introduction
This chapter shows you how to connect your DVR to a home network. You should do this
if:
You want to use the Music and Photos and/or Multi-Room Viewing features of Home
Media Option. See Chapter 6 for more details.
You want to eliminate regular use of a phone line. The DVR can use an always-on
broadband Internet connection (for example, DSL or a cable modem) that is part of a
home network for the Remote Scheduling feature of Home Media Option, and to
connect to the TiVo service. It will still need a phone line during Guided Setup.
In addition, with an always-on broadband connection, you can use Remote Scheduling
for any program airing more than an hour after you request it. (If your DVR is using a
phone line, processing a Remote Scheduling request can take up to 36 hours.)
Even if you do not have a home network, you can still connect multiple DVRs to each
other to use the Multi-Room Viewing feature of Home Media Option. This setup is
described online at www.tivo.com/support.
