Requirements Axon Evidence Axon Fleet 3 requires the Axon Evidence platform to provide a cloud-connected in-car video solution for essential public service organizations. Depending on your need, Fleet 3 can provide video capture, secure digital media storage and management, and paperless tracking and reporting.
  • Page 11: Mobile Data Terminal/Computer (Mdt/C)

Mobile Data Terminal/Computer (MDT/C) Axon Fleet 3 uses the vehicle’s MDC to interface with the Fleet Hub through software that enables a verified user of the system to initiate and terminate recordings, review and tag videos, and modify user preferences.

However, users can't use Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) without an MDC. The Axon Fleet 3 system must be able to transfer data via WAN, otherwise firmware updates, product registration/synchronization, ALPR, system configuration and evidence upload will not occur.

Fleet 3 User Guide Recording The Axon Fleet 3 Dual-View and Interior cameras can operate independently of each other. Caution Axon Fleet 3 cameras may become very hot during operation, especially when exposed to increased ambient temperatures. Use caution when touching the surface of the camera to avoid the risk of burn injury.
  • Page 19: Recording Specifications

Maximum video length The maximum recording length for Axon Fleet 3 cameras is six hours, at which point the hub will automatically terminate the recording and start a new one. The Hours on hub below is for one camera.

Bluetooth range of about 30 feet (9.1  meters). Axon Signal will only trigger a camera to start recording; it will not end a recording. Stop recordings manually. It will only trigger Axon systems that are powered on; Signal will not cause a powered-off Axon camera to turn on.
  • Page 21: Automatic License Plate Recognition (Alpr)

Guidance on use Axon Fleet 3 ALPR is a three-lane, mobile ALPR system with a 60° field of view, covering three lanes of traffic out to a distance of 50 feet—referred to as the capture area (image, left)—and will read plates passing at closing speeds of up to 140 mph.
  • Page 22: Performance

Performance Temperature The Fleet 3 camera will disable ALPR if the camera internal temperature exceeds 185 °F (85 °C). If starting a shift with a hot vehicle, running the air conditioner will help ALPR cool down to operating temparature in 10–15 minutes. The ALPR camera view will indicate ALPR OFF if the ALPR service is not available.
  • Page 23: Alpr Use Cases

To counter this, these systems may employ multiple cameras. Conversely, Axon Fleet 3 ALPR uses a wide 60° field of view covering three lanes out to 50 feet away. While a legacy ALPR system with two forward facing cameras has a detection area of approximately 192 cu.
  • Page 24: Parked Perpendicular To Passing Traffic

Pan camera to second detent, 45°, to capture passing traffic. At night, the overlap of the capture area with headlight illumination when perpendicular to traffic is so small that Axon Fleet 3 ALPR performance will decrease greatly. Axon Enterprise, Inc.
  • Page 25: Perpendicular Parking Lots

Fleet 3 User Guide Perpendicular parking lots Panning the camera at 45° is the recommended position for perpendicular parking scenarios in all lighting conditions. Perpendicular parking lots are usually configured to support two-way traffic. Lane width can be 25 ft. or wider. Vehicles/plates on the left side of the lane are barely within the capture area and, combined with the skew angle of the perpendicular plates, will capture poorly with the camera facing forward.
  • Page 26 Fleet 3 User Guide Panning the camera to the 2nd detent (45°) toward the right side significantly improves plate capture performance. Axon internal testing indicates better daylight capture by as much as 30% and as much as 100% at night with good headlight illumination.
  • Page 27: Diagonal Parking Lots

Fleet 3 User Guide Diagonal parking lots Camera forward is the recommended camera position for diagonal parking lots in all lighting conditions. Diagonal parking lots are usually one-way and narrower than perpendicular parking lots. Plates to either side of the ALPR camera are within the capture area.

  • Page 85 What will ALPR do if I am following the same plate(s) for a while? This is referred to as a "long track", meaning Fleet 3 maintains a track on the same plate for a period of time after the initial read.
