    S290/S290LS Maintenance Manual_V6.0 Chapter 1:Overview 1.1 Introduction This manual is prepared for distributors to maintain or repair S290/S290LS series. 1.2 Safety 1.2.1 Principles of a Fiber Laser LASER is the acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. A fiber laser is a laser in which the active gain medium is an optical fiber doped with rare-earth elements such as erbium, ytterbium, neodymium, dysprosium, praseodymium, and thulium.

Place a cardboard or paper about 1.5 meters away from the laser source. Fire the laser until you get a small burnt mark on the cardboard. (Determine the laser beam and the red beam are aligned by seeing if the burnt hole is at the exact location of the red beam.
