Special Features

The Power Winder II Rz fits conveniently under the RZ camera and attaches to its tripod socket. lt recocks the shutter, moves the mirror and advances the film whenever the shutter release is activated either on the camera or by means of the electromagnetic shutter release cables or by wireless remote control. lt can make single or continuous exposures. lt uses alkaline or rechargeable AA Nicad batteries. In the studio it can also be used with an AC adaptor. The RZ Winder adds even more versatility to the Mamiya RZ System, in the studio or on location.

Specifications

This product employs a protective circuit for prevention of electrostatic electrification. Should an electrostatic trouble occur, be sure to turn off power to this Product before using it again. Be careful not to touch the electrical contact of this Product.
In rare cases, this Product may be affected by a strong external electromagnetic wave. In such cases, carefully use this Product.

Inserting Batteries

1. Release the Battery Cartridge from the winder by moving the Battery Cartridge Release Lever in the direction of the arrow.
   
   For the Winder II Rz, use 6 AA alkaline/ manganese batteries or Ni-Cd batteries.
2. Insert fresh batteries, matching the ±poles of the batteries with the symbols in the cartridge. Replace the cartridge in the winder, pushing it completely in until it clicks and locks in place.
   

Battery Test

1. Turn on the power switch and press the battery test button. The red lamp (LED) lights when the batteries are set correctly in the cartridge, as indicated in the figure.
   

With Alkaline/manganese batteries

• Press LR button.

With Ni-Cd batteries

• Press Ni-Cd button.
• Lamp is on: The battery capacity is sufficient.
• Lamp flickers: The battery capacity has decreased. Replace all batteries.
• Lamp does not light: The batteries are inserted incorrectly, or not inserted at all.

Precautions

• Be sure to turn off the Power Switch when Winder RZ is not in use. When not used for prolonged periods, remove the batteries from the cartridge and store separately.
• When using cold batteries or shooting at low temperatures, battery performance drops and the Winder may become inoperative. Should this occur, immediately turn off the Power Switch. When using the Winder at low temperatures, care must be taken to prevent the batteries from growing too cold.
• Continuous, prolonged or frequent battery testing will drain batteries and should be avoided.
  Please note:
  When the AC Adapter is connected, it automatically engages the Winder's AC circuit and disconnects battery power. The lamp will light but in this mode is not a battery test. When replacing batteries, be sure to replace all six batteries. Do not mix battery types, or new with old batteries in the cartridge since this may cause battery leakage or damage to the unit.
• When the performance of the winder (film advance) grows sluggish, replace all six batteries as soon as possible.
• Do not mix battery types or new and old batteries in the cartridge as this may lead to battery leakage, damaging the unit.
• When inserting batteries, be sure the ±poles match the symbols found in the cartridge.
• Battery life varies considerably in accordance with the following factors: battery type, battery brand, freshness of batteries when purchased, the conditions under which the batteries are stored from time of purchase to time of use, temperature at time of use, whether the batteries receive frequent or intermittent use.

Attaching Winder II

1. Slide open the Winder Coupler Cover of the camera body.
   
2. Fit the winder to the base of the camera, aligning the Alignment Pins with the two openings of the camera body. Next, lock winder to camera body by rotating the Lock Key clockwise.
   
3. Make sure that the Winder is seated firmly, so that its pressure loaded electronic contact pins connect properly to the camera's. Check this condition periodically during use.

Using Winder II

Load a Roll Film Holder beforehand, with the arrow of the backing paper aligned with the Started Mark of the Film Insert.
(When testing the winder with an unloaded holder, set the R-M Lever to "M")

1. Turn on the Power Switch.
2. The film will automatically advance to the first frame after pushing the Start Button of the winder.
   
3. While the Winder is advancing the film, the battery test lamp will remain on. The shutter button will be inoperable during this time in order to avoid accidental exposures.
4. When the last exposure is made (#10 with 120 and #20 with 220 film), the film and backing paper will automatically be wound on the Take-up Spool and the winder will then stop.
5. Upon pressing the Shutter Release Button, the exposure will be made, film automatically advanced, and shutter and mirror recocked for the next exposure.

• Continuous exposures are possible by maintaining pressure on the Shutter Release Button.
• When a loaded holder is attached to the camera in mid-roll and not advanced, the shutter can not be released. At such a time, just push the Start Button of the winder and the film will automatically advance to the next frame, ready for shooting.
• When the Release Button Collar is set for the emergency shutter operation mode, the winder Start Button must be used to advance the film after each exposure.
• Even with a loaded holder attached to the camera in mid-roll and advanced, the shutter will not always release, if the shutter at the body side is not set. In this case, press the start button on winder. The shutter will thus be set to allow exposures.
• lf the Start Button is pressed while the R-M Lever is set to 'R', the winder may stop after the R-M Lever returns to its normal (central) position. lf this occurs, press the Start Button once again.

When the Winder II is used in combination with RB67 Series lens.

• When using an RB series lens with the Winder RZ, the winder will start winding the film immediately after the pressure is removed from the shutter release button even if the shutter is still open. Especially when using a slow shutter speed, be sure to keep the shutter release button depressed fully until the shutter operation is completed.
