1a. & b. Chin Vent
The following steps must be followed when choosing a helmet.
Throughout this manual the numbers (in brackets) are used to refer to the components in Figures 1 and 2.
Motorcycle helmets are sized based on the circumference of the head: this is measured using a measuring tape at the head's widest point just above the eyebrows and the ears as shown here in Figure 3. Select the size of helmet that is closest to your circumference. If your circumference falls in the middle between two sizes, then try the smaller helmet first.
The size table below may be used as a guide to sizing, however, all helmets should always be tried on to establish correct fitting.
XS | S | M | L | XL | XXL |
53-54 cm | 55-56 cm | 57-58 cm | 59-60 cm | 61-62 cm | 63-64 cm |
20.8-21.2 " | 21.6-22 " | 22.4-22.8" | 23.2-23.6 " | 24-24.4 " | 24.8-25.2" |
An improperly sized or fitted helmet, even if the Chinstrap (8) has been correctly fastened, will provide reduced or no protection in an accident or impact. If you have difficulty with sizing or fit, consult Alpinestars or your local Alpinestars' Dealer.
Follow these steps to ensure a proper fit.
To unfasten the Chinstrap (8), unsnap the button and pull the red tab downwards.
CRITICAL SAFETY
The Chinstrap (8) must be positioned under your chin against your throat. Do not position the Chinstrap (8) on your chin as in such a location the helmet can come off in an accident resulting in serious consequences such as injuries or death.
It is ESSENTIAL that the Chinstrap (8) is securely fastened and correctly adjusted EVERY time the helmet is worn. Failure to properly adjust the Chinstrap (8) may result in the helmet not fitting properly or even being thrown off in an accident or impact, causing loss of some or all protection afforded by the helmet.
NOTICE
Never adjust the Chinstrap (8) when riding. During riding if you feel the Chinstrap (8) loosening or loose, immediately stop riding and then adjust the Chinstrap (8) before resuming your ride.
A helmet must be correctly sized. A correctly fitted helmet should have a snug fit. If the helmet does not feel snug, it is too big for you, and you should try a smaller size.
To assess the helmet fit, first try to rotate the helmet towards the rear to see if you can push the helmet off your head. Next, try to push the helmet forwards and backwards to see if you can push the helmet off your head. It should be impossible for you to turn the helmet from side to side without moving your head.
If the helmet starts to come off your head after any of the above attempts, then the helmet is either too large or the Chinstrap (8) is not properly secured or tight enough. Do not use the helmet in this situation. Try another size or pull the Chinstrap (8) tight until it is impossible for you to pull the helmet off your head.
Helmet Too Small – Using excessive force to pull the helmet onto your head is a sign that the helmet is too small. With the helmet on your head, check for the feeling of strong pressure on a part or on all of your head. If you experience strong pressure, a larger helmet must be selected instead.
Helmet Too Large – The following checks can help you identify if the helmet is too large. A helmet that is too large will not provide protection, even if the Chinstrap (8) has been correctly fastened. The helmet is too large for you.
This helmet contains four ventilation points: Chin Vent (1a) and (1b), Chin Bar Vents (2), Top Vent (3) and Rear Spoiler (7).
Chin Vent (1a): is formed by two openings located in the front of the helmet, on the sides of the Shield Lock (6) mechanism. Each Chin Vent has a grab point, to be used to open or close it. Air entering from this point will be channeled towards the inner side of the Shield (4) for a de-mist action.
Chin Vent (1b): is a second ventilation point, located in the middle, just below the Shield Lock (6): this entrance is always open, and air entering from this point will be channeled towards the inner side of the Shield (4) for a de-mist action.
To close this ventilation point, the Chin Vent Rubber Tap (16) is provided, to be inserted in the holes.
NOTICE
Never try to open or close the second ventilation point when riding. During riding if you need to close the second ventilation point, stop riding and insert the Chin Vent Rubber Tap carefully before resuming your ride.
Chin Bar Vents (2): are used to convey humid air from inside the helmet to the outside of the helmet.
Top Vent (3): to open the vent, push backwards the Astars central slider. To close it, pull it forward. Ventilation entering from this point will be channeled on the head for better airflow comfort.
Spoiler (7a or 7b): the helmet is fitted with a Spoiler (7a or 7b) for aerodynamic purposes and for hot air extraction. For Spoiler (7a or 7b) details please read Paragraph 9.
A hydration system can be installed on the left or on the right side of the helmet.
Insert the tube under the flexible flap located on the lower/rear side of Cheek Pads (11), until the tube exits from the inner side of the Cheek Pads (11), then position it on the back of the Cheek Pads (11).
To remove the Shield (4), lift it to the highest position, then pull the lever on the Shield Mechanism (5) towards the front, until the Shield tooth disengages. Repeat for the other side.
Before installing the Shield (4), check the orange lever located behind the Shield Mechanism is completely upwards.
If not, then push it upwards by using a small screwdriver, then pull the lever towards the front, and insert the Shield (4) on the mechanism, taking care to insert the front pin of the Shield (4) inside the hole of the orange lever, then release the lever. Repeat for the other side. Move the Shield (4) completely up and down two times using both hands to ensure the engagement is effective. If not, the Shield (4) will pop out, and the procedure must be repeated again.
Before riding, always check that the Shield (4) is securely installed.
NOTICE
In the event of an accident or impact, the Shield (4) may shatter or disconnect due to the impact or pressure arising from such accident. Do not use the helmet if the Shield (4) is broken, damaged, or scratched in such a manner that impairs your vision.
Replacement Shields are available. ONLY use genuine Alpinestars Shields, please ask your Dealer for Alpinestars' spare parts.
The first time after purchasing the helmet, remove the Shield's protective film.
This Shield (4) is provided with interior pins for fixation of a Pinlock® lens (found in the box). To install the Pinlock® lens on the inner side of the Shield (4), follow the instructions given by the Pinlock® lens manufacturer.
This Shield (4) is also provided with pins for fixation of tear offs (they come with three pieces in the box): to prepare the tear offs, peel off the protective film from both sides, then fix them to the outer surface of the Shield (4), through the pins. Adjust the tension of the films, by rotating the pins.
NOTICE
Tear offs should only be used on private tracks.
NOTICE
Never grab your helmet by the Shield (4), as this could cause the Shield (4) to detach and the helmet to fall on the ground, causing damage to the outer and inner shells.
The Shield Lock (6) is located in the front of the helmet and locks the Shield (4) in its closed position, as well as prevents the Shield (4) from accidentally opening.
To open the Shield (4), put your finger under the tab in the middle front of the Shield (4) and push it up, this will disengage the Shield (4) that will then be free for further upwards movement by using the central plastic grab point.
To close the Shield (4), pull it downwards by using the central plastic grab point, until the Shield Lock (6) tab locks it automatically.
CRITICAL SAFETY
Always ensure that the Shield (4) is closed before commencing your ride. If the Shield (4) is not fully closed, it could suddenly open during a fall, resulting in serious consequences such as injuries or death.
If the helmet is dropped, damaged or incurs a significant impact it MUST NOT be worn, as helmets are designed in such a manner so as to absorb the forces from an impact in the event of a fall through the partial or complete destruction of the helmets outer and/or inner shell. Even if after such an incident, there may be no visible damage to the helmet, the helmet MUST be replaced for safety reasons, as the helmet's ability to absorb future impacts is compromised. If you have any doubts about the integrity of the helmet, consult Alpinestars or your local Alpinestars' Dealer.
Remember that helmets block vision and sound, which may reduce your ability to safely ride your motorcycle. Helmets may reduce your awareness of traffic and/or road conditions and your surroundings. Become aware of how your perception of traffic, road and other surrounding conditions are affected by helmet use. Do not use the helmet if it restricts the safe operation of your motorcycle.
In order to facilitate cleaning of the helmet, it is possible to remove the helmet lining. Once removed, the lining parts are washable by hand using warm water (max temperature of 30°Celsius) and neutral soap. Never use harsh cleaners or other chemical substances, as they may damage the lining. Always dry the lining completely, without exposure to direct heat.
Crown/Neck Pad removal and replacement: the Crown Pad (9a) and the Neck Pad (9b) are elastically connected and must be removed together simultaneously.
Crown Pad (9a) is removable by pulling the front plastic frame inwards, and the Neck Pad (9b) is removable by pulling the two rear studs inwards. To reinstall the Crown Pad (9a) and Neck Pad (9b), reverse the procedure.
Top Pad removal and replacement: the Top Pad (10) is removable by pulling the four studs (two in the front and two in the rear) inwards. For better washing the Top Pad (10) can be removed from the plastic frame by extracting the plastic legs from the elastic rings. To reinstall the Top Pad (10), reverse the procedure.
Cheek Pads removal and replacement: the Cheek Pads (11) are removable by pulling the plastic frames inwards on both sides to disengage the pins from their retaining orange counterparts. Then pull outwards to release the neck roll from the red clips. To reinstall the Cheek Pads (11), connect them to the two red clips first, then align the pins to their retaining orange counterparts and push until they lock.
Check that the Chinstrap (8) is in the correct position after installation.
To obtain a snugger helmet fit, thicker Cheek Pads (+5 mm for all sizes) are available as alternative parts options, to replace the regular ones, please ask your Alpinestars' authorized Dealer for assistance.

This Alpinestars' helmet contains the 'A-HEAD' adjustment technology, which allows the fit to be further customized to the rider's preference for the height and angle at which the helmet sits on the head, allowing for an ultra-specific setup that can be adapted for the rider's unique fit. The A-HEAD Fitment System is made up of two patented adjustment structures:
Top Fit Adjustment
When the head shape of a user does not follow the lining of the helmet, pressure points may occur, commonly on the sides or upper corners of the head.
The A-HEAD top adjustment can help this by allowing the Top Pad (10) of the helmet to be adjustable between three height level positions on the mounting points as shown in Figure 21.
At time of helmet purchase, the Top Pad (10) is mounted in position 1 of the height levels on the four mounting points located on the helmet shell - two in the front of the helmet shell and two in the rear of the helmet shell. It is recommended to keep the Top Pad (10) in this default position, as this keeps the helmet closer to your head.
To change the position of the Top Pad (10), take the end of the two leg connectors in the front, and pull them away from the mounting points. The leg connectors should disconnect from the mounting points. These can then be re-inserted into the adjacent height level position (position 2), in order to adjust the height.
NEVER use the helmet with the Top Pad (10) removed.
NOTICE
Make sure the Top Pad (10) is well fixed in your helmet before you use your helmet. A loose Top Pad (10) will compromise the fit of your helmet.
Neck Fit Adjustment
The A-HEAD Neck Pad adjustment system allows the Neck Pad (9b) to be adjustable between two height level positions on the mounting points, as shown in Figure 22.
At time of helmet purchase, the Neck Pad (9b) is mounted in position 1 of the height levels on the two mounting points located on the rear EPS protective foam.
When changing from position 1 to position 2, the helmet will rotate upwards.
To change the position of the Neck Pad (9b), pull the two rear studs fixed in position 1 inwards, and push both studs into position 2.
This action MUST be done on BOTH sides of the Neck Pad (9b).Never only do it on one side.
NOTICE
Make sure that both sids of the Neck Pad (9b) are well fixed in your helmet before you use your helmet. A loose Neck Pad (9b) will compromise the fit of your helmet.
The helmet with graphics comes fitted with a longer Race Spoiler (7a), a Standard Spoiler (7b) is available in the box. The Solid helmet comes fitted with a Standard Spoiler (7b), a longer Race Spoiler (7a) is sold separately. It is possible to switch from one type of Spoiler to the other.
NOTICE
Never try to switch from one type of Spoiler to another when riding. Stop riding, remove your helmet, and then switch the Spoiler.
To remove the Spoiler (7a or 7b), grab it on one side and gently pull it outwards until it disengages from the snaps and the double side tape on the shell.
Remove residual double side tape from Spoiler (7a or 7b) and from shell.
To install the spoiler (7a or 7b), peel off the double side tape, position it on the snaps on the shell starting from one side, and accurately push it until all the snaps are locked and the double side tape attached.
Before riding, always check that the Spoiler (7a or 7b) is securely installed.
In the event of an accident or impact, the Spoiler (7a or 7b) may shatter or disconnect due to the impact or pressure arising from such accident.
Do not use the helmet if the Spoiler (7a or 7b) is missing, broken or damaged.
Replacement Spoilers (7a or 7b) are available. ONLY use genuine Alpinestars' Spoilers (7a or 7b), please ask your dealer for Alpinestars' spare parts.
NOTICE
Never grab your helmet by the Rear Spoiler (7a or 7b), as this could cause the Rear Spoiler (7a or 7b) to detach and the helmet to fall on the ground, causing damage to the outer and inner shells.
In the event of an accident, and to help the medical staff to safely remove the helmet from the head of the rider, the helmet is equipped with an Emergency Release System (ERS) for safe and easy removal of the Cheek Pads (11) while the helmet is still on.
Remove the Cheek Pads (11), by inserting the fingers in the pockets indicated by the logo ERS on each lower side, then pull outwards: the Cheek Pads (11) will disengage from the inner protective shell.
