Safety instructions

General Power Tool Safety Warnings

Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Work area safety

• Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
• Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
• Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical safety

• Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
• Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
• Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
• Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
• When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock..
• If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal safety

• Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
• Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
• Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
• Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
• Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
• Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
• If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

Power tool use and care

• Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
• Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
• Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
• Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
• Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
• Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

Battery tool use and care

• Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
• Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
• When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
• Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

Service

• Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

Tacker safety warnings

• Always assume that the tool contains fasteners. Careless handling of the tacker can result in unexpected firing of fasteners and personal injury.
• Do not point the tool towards yourself or anyone nearby. Unexpected triggering will discharge the fastener causing an injury.
• Do not actuate the tool unless the tool is placed firmly against the workpiece. If the tool is not in contact with the workpiece, the fastener may be deflected away from your target.
• Disconnect the tool from the power source when the fastener jams in the tool. While removing a jammed fastener, the tacker may be accidentally activated if it is plugged in.
• Use caution while removing a jammed fastener. The mechanism may be under compression and the fastener may be forcefully discharged while attempting to free a jammed condition.
• Do not use this tacker for fastening electrical cables. It is not designed for electric cable installation and may damage the insulation of electric cables thereby causing electric shock or fire hazards.
• Use suitable detectors to determine if there are hidden supply lines or contact the local utility company for assistance. Contact with electric cables can cause fire and electric shock. Damaging gas lines can lead to explosion. Breaking water pipes causes property damage.

Protect the power tool against heat, e.g. against continuous intense sunlight, fire, water, and moisture. There is a risk of explosion.

Safety instructions for power supply

• This power supply is not intended for use by children or persons with physical, sensory or mental limitations or a lack of experience or knowledge. This power supply can be used by children aged 8 or older and by persons who have physical, sensory or mental limitations or a lack of experience or knowledge if a person responsible for their safety supervises them or has instructed them in the safe operation of the power supply and they understand the associated dangers. Otherwise, there is a risk of operating errors and injuries.

Do not expose the power supply to rain or wet conditions. Water entering the power supply will increase the risk of electric shock.

• Keep the power supply clean. Dirt poses a risk of electric shock.
• Always check the power supply before use. Stop using the power supply if you discover any damage. Do not open the power supply yourself, and have it repaired only by a qualified specialist using only original replacement parts. Damaged power supplies increase the risk of electric shock.

Intended Use

The power tool is intended for tacking fabrics, leather, cardboard, foils, insulation material and similar materials to a soft surface, such as wood or wood-like materials. The power tool is not suitable for fastening wall or ceiling panelling.

Assembly

Battery Charging

• Use only the power adaptors listed in the technical data. Only these power adaptors are matched to the lithium-ion battery of your power tool.
• Pay attention to the mains voltage. The voltage of the power source must match the voltage specified on the rating plate of the power adaptor. Power adaptors marked with 230 V can also be operated with 220 V.

Note: The battery is supplied partially charged. To ensure the maximum performance of the battery, use the power adaptor to fully charge the battery before first use.

The lithium-ion battery can be charged at any time without reducing its service life. Interrupting the charging process does not damage the battery.

The lithium-ion battery is protected against deep discharge by "Electronic Cell Protection (ECP)". A protective circuit switches the power tool off when the battery is drained.

• Do not continue to press the trigger after the power tool has automatically switched off. This can damage the battery.

To charge the battery, connect the Micro USB port (4) to the power adaptor (9) via the USB cable (8). Plug the power adaptor into a plug socket. The charging process will begin.

The battery charge indicator (2) indicates the charging progress. During the charging process, the power tool is deactivated and cannot be used. During the charging process, the handle of the power tool will normally heat up. If you are not planning to use the power tool again soon, disconnect the power adaptor (9) from the mains.

• Protect the power adaptor against moisture!

Loading the Magazine

• Use only original Bosch accessories. The precision parts of the tacker, such as the magazine, striker and shot duct, are matched to Bosch staples. Other manufacturers use different steel grades and sizes.
  • Turn the power tool around.
  • Press the magazine release(6) and pull the magazine (11) out of the back of the tool at the same time.
  • Insert the staple strip(10) with the staple tips pointing upwards.
  • Slide the magazine(11) back in until it clicks into place.
• Do not use force when opening, loading or closing the magazine.

Operation

Starting Operation

Tacking

• First, firmly place the tacker head (1) against the workpiece until it is pushed in to the material by a few millimetres.
• Maintain the contact pressure and briefly press the trigger (5).
• Once the staple has been completely driven in, release the trigger (5) and lift the tacker head (1) from the workpiece.

The trigger lock, which is connected to the movable tacker head (1), prevents the unintended release of a staple when the trigger (5) is pressed accidentally.

Practical Advice

• 19 mm staples cannot be used with this power tool. Therefore you should not use the power tool to attach ceiling panels with claws for fastening wooden profiles or joints.
• Do not hold the power tool by the trigger if the staple is jammed inside. The trigger could accidentally be pulled while removing a jammed staple.

Avoid pulling the trigger when the magazine is empty to minimise wear on the firing pin.

Carefully set the tacker head (1) down on the material. Soft workpieces (e.g. pine wood) could be damaged if you press down too hard.

Accessories for Tacking Paper

With specific accessories, the power tool can be used for tacking paper. The accessories are only suitable for the PTK 3,6 LI.

• With thepaper tacker (12), you can tack together up to 60 sheets.
• With thebooklet maker (13), you can tack together up to 30 sheets using two staples in the centre, making them into a booklet. The maximum size of the sheets to be tacked is A4 (210 mm wide). For centre tacking of sheets of A5 size, positioning marks are available.

Note: Tacker staples are stronger than standard staples and are therefore more difficult to remove from the paper.

• Use only original Bosch accessories. The precision parts of the tacker, such as the magazine, striker and shot duct, are matched to Bosch staples. Other manufacturers use different steel grades and sizes.

Tacking paper (see figures C1 and C2)

• Insert a suitable staple strip(10).
• Click the lugs of the paper tacker(12) one by one into the side slots of the power tool.
• Place the stack of paper in the paper tacker(12) and position the tacker head over the paper surface to be tacked.
• Firmly press the power tool down until the tacker head(1) is pushed in a few millimetres.
• Maintain the contact pressure and briefly press the trigger(5).
• Once the staple has been completely driven in, release the trigger(5) and lift the tacker head (1) from the stack of paper.

Note: To load the magazine (11), you have to remove the paper tacker (12) from the power tool.

Tacking booklets (see figures D1–D3)

• Before using it for the first time, you must slot the two halves of the booklet maker(13) together. The booklet maker can no longer be removed.
• Insert a suitable staple strip (10).
• Fold the top sheet (cover) of the stack of paper to be tacked in half, in order to obtain an indication line for the staple position.
• Open the brackets (14) of the booklet maker (13) and place the paper stack in the middle, with the cover facing upwards.
• Fold the brackets (14) down.
• Align the paper stack in such a way that the indication line is visible through the slots of the brackets.
• First, firmly press the tacker head (1) into one of the slots and push it in a few millimetres.
• Maintain the contact pressure and briefly press the trigger (5).
• Once the staple has been completely driven in, release the trigger(5) and lift the tacker head (1) from the bracket.
• Repeat the steps for the second slot.
• Open the brackets (14), remove the tacked paper stack and fold it in half.

• To ensure safe and efficient operation, always keep the power tool and the ventilation slots clean.

If the battery is no longer working, please contact an authorised after-sales service agent for Bosch power tools.

In order to avoid safety hazards, if the power supply cord needs to be replaced, this must be done by Bosch or by an after-sales service centre that is authorised to repair Bosch power tools.
