SECTION 3 - PREPARATION BEFORE USE
3.1- GEARBOX LUBRICATION (Figure 3-1)
Prior to initial use, check gearbox oil level
and, if necessary, add oil as required.
Thereafter, check gearbox oil level at the
periodic intervals recommended in Section 5.
Use high quality SAE 90 GEARLUBE oil. To
check gearbox oil level, proceed as follows:-
a. With unit as level as possible, remove the
OIL LEVEL CHECK PLUG. Oil should be at point
of overflowing the CHECK PLUG opening.
b. If oil level is low, remove the OIL FILL
PLUG. Add SAE 90 GEARLUBE oil through the OIL
FILL PLUG opening until oil is at point of
overflowing the OIL LEVEL CHECK PLUG opening.
c. When oil level in gearbox is correct, in-
stall and tighten the OIL LEVEL CHECK and the
OIL FILL PLUGS.

3.2- INSTALL PTO SHAFT GUARD (Figure 3-2)
Install the power takeoff (PTO) shaft GUARD
as shown. Retain with two M8-15 SCREWS and
LOCK WASHERS.

3.3- MOUNTING THE GENERATOR (Figure 3-3, 3-4)
DANGER!
At the generator's rated maximum continuous
electrical load, approximately 73 horsepower
is applied at the gearbox power takeoff
shaft. This horsepower
is applied
as
a
torsional or twisting force to the generator
and may cause the unit to tip over as soon as
electrical loads are applied. Tipping of the
unit may result in serious injury to personn-
el and/or damage to the generator. To prevent
tipping that might be caused by high
torsional forces during operation, the unit
must be properly bolted to a sturdy retaining
structure such as a reinforced concrete slab
or a wide base trailer that is designed for
the purpose of mounting a PTO driven generat-
or.
' , 1191•11111110111.
Trailer-Mounted Units:- If desired, the
generator may be installed onto a wide base
trailer and pulled behind the tractor. Only a
wide
base
trailer
that
is
designed
specifically for the purpose of mounting a
PTO driven generator should be used for this
purpose. or tipping of the unit may occur. A
2-wheel trailer is available from GENERAC -
ask your Dealer/Distributor or consult the
factory for details.
Mounting to a Cement Slab:- If desired, the
generator may be mounted to a cement slab.
Figure 3-3 shows the recommended construction
dimensions of the slab. Four 1/2"-13 x 8"
long masonry anchor bolts are required for
generator mounting, with each bolt extending
1-3/4" above the top of the slab.
Figure 3-3. Recommended Cement Slab
Construction
Retain the generator to the slab as shown in
Figure 3-4. The generator mounting base
should rest on 1/2 inch thick rubber pads,
which act as vibration dampeners. Retain the
unit to the four 1/2"-13 masonry anchor
bolts, using 1/2" LOCK WASHERS and 1/2"-13
NUTS.
