STOPPING
THE GENERATOR
a. Set the generator's MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER
to its OFF or OPEN position.
b. Unplug or turn OFF electrical loads.
c. Let the generator run for a few minutes
without load, to cool.
d. Shut the tractor engine down.
e. Disconnect the power takeoff (PTO) shaft.
DANGER!
When
using
the MODULAR CONNECTOR (full
capacity plug), the frame and external
electrically
conductive parts of the
generator must be connected to a suitable
earth ground or service equipment ground. See
Paragraph 3.6 on Page 9.
f. Set the generator's MtIN CIRCUIT BREAKER
to ON or CLOSED.
g. Check the panel
voltmeter reading.
If
necessary, readjust tractor engine speed un-
til voltmeter indicates 120 volts.
SECTION
5 - PERIOD IC MAINTENANCE
5.1-
GENERAL
INSPECTION
Carefully inspect the generator at least once
each month. Complete a close visual check of
the unit. Look for (a) loose or broken wires,
(b)
faulty
connections,
(c) general
appearance and cleanliness. Promptly correct
any problems that might be found. Keep the
generator CLEAN and in GOOD CONDITION.
5.2-
STORAGE
Store the generator only in a dry area where
it will be protected from the elements and
from sudden temperature changes.
The storage area should be maintained at a
near constant temperature, to minimize cond-
ensation on
the generator windings. If
possible, use space heaters to keep the unit
dry during storage.
5.3-
CHECK GEARBOX OIL LEVEL (Figure 5-1)
Check gearbox oil level prior to each use, or
at least every 10 hours of operation or
weekly (whichever comes first). See Paragraph
3.1 (Page 7) for oil level check procedure.
5.4- CHANGE GEARBOX OIL (Figure 5-1)
Change gearbox oil level after the first 25
hours of operation. Thereafter, change gear-
box oil every 250 operating hours or every 6
months (whichever occurs first). To change
gearbox oil, proceed as follows:-
a. Operate the generator until gearbox oil is
warm, then shut down.
h. Remove OIL DRAIN PLUG and OIL FILL PLUG.
Drain gearbox completely into a suitable con-
tainer.
c. When oil has drained completely, install
and tighten OIL DRAIN PLUG.
d. Remove OIL LEVEL CHECK PLUG.
e. Add a high quality SAE 90 GEARLUBE oil
through the OIL FILL PLUG opening until oil
is at point of overflowing the OIL LEVEL
CHECK PLUG opening.
f. When oil is at proper level, install OIL
LEVEL CHECK PLUG and OIL FILL PLUG.
g. Check that all plugs are tight,
5.5-
LUBRICATE POWER TAKEOFF SHAFT
(Figure 5-2)
Lubricate the telescoping shaft of the power
takeoff (PTO) shaft frequently, using general
purpose lithium base grease. Also apply the
grease to the PTO shaft splines.
Use a grease gun to apply general purpose
lithium base grease to grease fitt ings at
the PTO shaft universal joints.
