Introduction The Universal Input-Output Interface, model UIO, facilitates the creation of hybrid solutions by integrating Echoflex wireless devices into existing panels, wired control systems, or building energy management systems (BEMS). It provides functionality to support hospitality applications and timeclocks, connect shared occupancy spaces, and recognize presets.

Some features can only be configured using Garibaldi Pro software. Note: For information about Garibaldi Pro software or pre-configuring services that provide complete system solutions, contact ETC. Garibaldi Pro software is available for download from etcconnect.com/garibaldipro. Radio Communications The UIO controller is equipped with a 902 MHz radio capable of transmitting and receiving wireless messages.
  • Page 10: Status Messaging

Status Messaging When status messaging is enabled, the UIO transmits a message that includes the channel voltage level and separate radio ID. Note: Controller Out 1 uses the UIO's base radio ID, a unique eight-place hexadecimal. Controller Out 2 and the two Sensor In (A and B) each use a derived radio ID that is created using the following formula: ((radio ID * 4) AND 0xFF800000) + channel # Where the channel # is:...
  • Page 11: Sensor Input Operations

Sensor Input Operations The two input channels (Sensor In A and Sensor In B) can be assigned a wireless profile message type to manage. The UIO interprets these external input connections (dry contact, analog 0–10 V, or 4–20 mA signal) according to the presence of voltage. Profile types include: •...
  • Page 12: Link An Input Channel To A Controller

Link an Input Channel to a Controller The compatible target controllers must be installed, powered, and within range of the UIO. Note: The linking process can be used to link a device to a controller or to unlink a linked device from a controller. 1.
  • Page 13: Custom Messages Using Garibaldi Pro

Custom Messages using Garibaldi Pro Garibaldi Pro software is required to combine channels and to configure each input event (active and inactive). The message format for custom configurations requires expert knowledge. For more information about writing different values, contact technical support at support.etcconnect.com.
  • Page 14: Controller Output Operations

Controller Output Operations The two output channels (Ctrl Out 1 and Ctrl Out 2) can be configured to behave like a lighting controller's dimming channel. Linked switches and sensors will drive the output value based on the output configuration settings. A linked photo sensor will drive the output up or down for daylighting control.
  • Page 15: Clear An Output Channel

Clear an Output Channel Use the [Input Type/CLR] button to restore the pre-configured settings or the factory default settings to an output channel. The pre-configured settings retain the linked devices, while the factory default settings remove all linked devices. 1. Press and hold the [Channel] button until the State LED changes from red to blue, indicating the interface is unlocked.
  • Page 16: Common Controller Settings

Common Controller Settings The following sections describe common configuration settings available for controllers linked to the output Ctrl Out 1 or Ctrl Out 2. For relay operation, this would mean Ctrl Out 2 would be assigned as channel 1's relay output. Note: In this context, use of the term "controller"...
  • Page 17: Occupancy Sensor Auto-Off Timer

Occupancy Sensor Auto-OFF Timer The occupancy Auto-OFF timer is set to 15 minutes by default. The value can be changed using Simple Tap. Dual Tech sensors also have a built-in independent occupancy timer Auto-OFF . To use the occupancy timer on the sensor, not the controller, set the controller’s occupancy timer to zero seconds.
  • Page 18: Dual Technology Occupancy Sensors

Dual Technology Occupancy Sensors Dual Tech sensors have built-in occupancy timers that manage the transition from occupied to vacant state. To allow the Dual Tech sensor to control the vacancy action, the controller’s occupancy sensor Auto-OFF timer parameter should be set to zero (0) seconds. See Occupancy Sensor Auto-OFF Timer on page 17 Occupancy Sensors and Partial-ON...
  • Page 19: Night Light Level

A shared occupancy timer starts when a controller transitions from an occupied to a vacant state. Controllers with the same shared occupancy ID that remain occupied will reset the shared occupancy timer of any controller reporting vacancy within the ID group. The vacant controllers will remain at the Partial-OFF value until all controllers in the group report vacancy.
  • Page 20: Hospitality Applications

A night light level has useful applications in commercial office spaces, either open concept or enclosed offices. Typically, these spaces have controlled zones that include emergency lights (single fixtures that behave normally except during a power loss or emergency) and night lights (single fixtures that behave normally but never go off completely).
  • Page 21: Daylight Harvesting Applications

Daylight Harvesting Applications Note: The controller supports only one linked photo sensor. If using a type of Multi-Sensor, Echoflex recommends that only one be linked to the controller. If a system only has a rocker switch and photo sensor linked, the lights will go OFF when the light level rises above the OFF set point.
  • Page 22 Note: This process is best performed when there is little or no natural light; either close the blinds or complete this step at night. A photo sensor and a switch must be linked to the controller. To set the closed loop set point: 1.
  • Page 23: Open Loop Control

Open Loop Control A sensor's default setting (open loop or closed loop) depends on what it is linked to and the controller's daylighting operating mode setting: Automatic, Open Loop, or Closed Loop. In open loop daylighting, the sensor monitors the natural light contribution. The sensor must be mounted so it is not affected by the controlled fixture's light output.

Mid Range is the default for both the Open Loop CCT Sensor (FLS-41) and the CCT Photo Sensor (TAP- 41).
  • Page 25: Example Uio Applications

Example UIO Applications The UIO is a versatile device that can be used in numerous applications. Use Garibaldi Pro to configure custom solutions. Replace the Wire For a wiring scenario that would require a difficult connection between remote BEMS sensors and controllers, you can install two UIOs to replace the signal (analog or Boolean) with a wireless solution.
  • Page 26: Interface With Third-Party Systems

Interface with Third-Party Systems The sensor inputs can be translated into wireless outputs that support several device type profiles. A common use-case for this application is interfacing with a security or fire system to drive lights to 100% when needed. Editing the configuration parameters for the Demand Response profile (row 6) provides the opportunity to create custom operations.

User Interface Three buttons on the right side of the UIO can be used to activate features and set specific configurations directly on the device. The State and Mode LEDs provide activity feedback. Note: The State LED indicates the analog value of the controller output: red=0 V, blue=10 V, and a range of blended color for voltages in between.
