Introduction Scope and definitions This manual provides installation, operation and maintenance instructions for ATEX CDX dry pump systems. The system must be used as specified in this manual. Read this manual before installing and operating the system. Important safety information is highlighted as WARNING and CAUTION instructions; these instructions must be obeyed.
Section 1.5.1 (refer to Table Category 2 systems Category 2 systems require one means of protection. The CDX dry pump uses containment by fitting flame arrestors or by constructional safety (see Table Table 1 - Protection concepts used Type of Pump...

P60074500 Issue E It has been shown by test that the CDX pump will not create an internal or external auto-ignition of flammable gases under all conditions of normal use (as defined in this manual) or when stopping due to a power failure or emergency stop operation.
CDX dry pump inlet flame arrestor WARNING Flame arrestors must be directly connected to the CDX Dry Pump. Do not use any inter connecting spool pieces or elbows as there is a risk that the flame arrester won't function correctly.
Do not use any inter connecting spool pieces or elbow as there is a risk that the flame arrester won't function correctly. The CDX pump can be fitted with either an integral exhaust flame arrestor or it can be fitted with a flanged, in-line, eccentric external flame arrestor (See Figure 1 and 2).
5.4). Please note that this option is available from Edwards. The pressure limit ensures the integrity of the flame arrestor elements (if fitted) and the temperature class of the dry pump, and also ensures reliable operation of the dry pump.
The minimum shaft seal purge supply pressure must be 0.3 barg. Pump temperature WARNING To maintain the ATEX certification of the CDX dry vacuum pump system, it is mandatory to control the dry pump operating temperature. Refer to Table 2 for the mandatory pump oil trip temperatures and pressures.
When operating in ambient temperature between -20 °C and -5 °C it is recommended that the system should only be turned off for maintenance. Consideration should be given to trace heating process pipes where there is a risk of condensation producing harmful materials inside the pumping system. If in doubt, consult Edwards for advice.
The electrical parts of the dry pump system supplied by Edwards have been electrically tested to ensure that all earth (ground) connections and insulation properties for items that can become electrically live conform to European standard EN60204.
Before operating the system, Edwards recommends that a system leak check should be carried out. If vacuum leak check equipment is not available, a pressure rise test can be carried out to determine the leak rate into the system.
Ensure that the valves are correctly set during commissioning and that any consequences of incorrect operation have been considered and hazards avoided. All such devices that are supplied as standard modules by Edwards have been integrated into systems safely and any operational details specific to such devices are included in the module instruction manuals.
P60074500 Issue E Operation The system as supplied by Edwards must be operated as defined in this manual. There are no mandatory requirements other than those specified in Section 5. However, this is an ATEX approved system and no modifications may be made...
CDX dry pumps WARNING CDX dry pumps are designed to prevent the transmission of an internal ignition to a potentially flammable external atmosphere. When carrying out maintenance activities that require disassembly of critical components (refer to dry pump manual A70801880 Sections 5.9 and 5.14), ensure that the activity is carried out as specified in the pump manual.
Integral flame arrestors The integral flame arrestors are located on the inlet and outlet of the CDX dry pump and consist of a cast housing that is bolted to the pump main body and a flame arrestor element that is located inside the cast housing. The housing is fitted with an access port enabling element removal and also carries instrument ports into which are screwed the necessary temperature and pressure sensors.
Download the latest documents from www.edwardsvacuum.com/HSForms/, follow the procedure in HS1, fill in the electronic HS2 form, print it, sign it, and return the signed copy to Edwards. Note: If we do not receive a completed HS2 form, your equipment cannot be serviced.
