The CDX/IDX Pumping System Instruction Manual (P600-74-600) supplied with the system will define the
build specification of the pump; that is, the type of motor and any accessories fitted.
If the CDX pump is part of an ATEX system, an ATEX system instruction manual (P600-74-500) will be
supplied, which defines the installation, operation and maintenance requirements for ATEX compliance.

    Introduction Scope and definitions This manual provides installation, operation and maintenance instructions for the Edwards CDX1000 chemical dry vacuum pumps and the IDX1000 and IDX1300 industrial dry vacuum pumps. The pump must be used as specified in this manual. Read this manual before installing and operating the pump.

    The thermal snap-switches will reset (that is, close again) when the pump cools down to a preset temperature (see Section 2.8). Edwards recommends that the control equipment incorporates a manual reset device so that the pump does not automatically switch on after it cools down.

    Where there is a risk that corrosive or dangerous condensates may form inside the pumping system, Edwards recommends fitting suitable heaters to the inlet and outlet pipelines. If necessary, contact Edwards or the supplier for advice.

    Use suitable bolts to connect the pump outlet (Figure 1, or 3, item 16) to the exhaust system. Use a suitable PTFE gasket to seal the connection. Edwards recommends using the gasket type specified in Section 2.9.

    CAUTION If the pump is operating in an ambient temperature between -20 and -5 °C (-4 and 23 °F), Edwards recommends that the pump is never shut down, other than for maintenance. If doubts about this, contact Edwards for advice.

    260 °C (500 °F) and above. These breakdown products are very dangerous. The pump may have overheated if it was misused, if it malfunctioned, or if it was in a fire. Edwards Safety Data Sheets for the fluorinated materials used in the pump are available on request: contact the supplier or Edwards.

    Adjust the maintenance plan for IDX and non-ATEX pumps according to experience. When maintaining the pump, use Edwards maintenance and service kits. These contain all of the seals and other components necessary to complete maintenance operations successfully. The Item Numbers of these kits are given Section 7.3.
