Section 3
Installing Main Supply Cables
WARNI NG:
Matrix II racks may be ordered with either a 400A or 600A internal busbar/fuse assembly which is
located on the right side of the rear of the rack (rear access racks) or on the left side from the front
(swing frame racks). The busbar may be used for either top or bottom cable access points and is
factory fitted for bottom cable access as shown here.
In the diagram right, [a] is the earth bonding point (rear access rack
version), [b] are the clamp terminations for 3-phase and neutral
conductors, [c] are the module fuses and processor fuses and [d] are
busbar isolation covers. For swing-frame racks, the earth busbar is located
to the left of the fuse panel and is suitable for both top and bottom cable
access. Note that the processor fuses are located at the top row for all
rack versions.
Bottom Cable Access
To install main supply cables with bare-end conductors
(bottom cable access)
Remove the fuse cover panel (rear access rack) or the
o
busbar termination cover (swing frame rack).
Dress cables neatly in the rack and support
o
conductors using the perforated strap bars in the side
of the rack to reduce mechanical stress on the busbar
clamp terminations
Strip 25mm insulation from each conductor and
o
ensure that the conductors are inserted between the
front pressure leaf and the busbar
Tighten each clamp bolt.
o
Replace the fuse cover panel (rear access rack) or the
o
busbar termination cover (swing frame rack).
10
Ensure that it remains impossible to apply power to the main supply
cable while installation of the main suppply rack connections are
being made. Ideally, connect the main supply cables to the dimmer
racks before making connections to the supply switchgear. IT MUST
NOT BE POSSIBLE TO ACCIDENTALLY APPLY POWER TO THE
RACK DURING THIS INSTALLATION PROCESS.
CAUTION:
Ensure that supply cables are adequately
supported to avoid any strain to the busbar
connections.
