3 — Connect Cables
If you would rather mount the appliance before performing
configuration tasks, skip to
and then return to this section. The following procedure doc-
uments a basic Fail to Appliance deployment with a ProxySG
(see
Figure
1). For other deployments, refer to the SSL Visi-
bility Admin Guide, available at techdocs.broadcom.com.
NOTE: Network cables are not included with the appliance.
Make sure to use only straight-through Ethernet cables.
Category 6A cables are required for 10GBase-T operation.
To deploy the appliance and connect cables:
1. Connect an Ethernet cable to the rear-panel MGMT 0:0
port of the appliance, and connect the other end to a
management workstation, either directly or through a
management network switch.
2. For a Fail to Appliance deployment (see
nect Ethernet cables from the rear-panel network ports
of the appliance to the following devices:
Upstream switch
ProxySG (2:0 port)
ProxySG (2 1 port)
Client side switch
3. Connect the RJ45 end of the included null-modem serial
cable to the rear-panel RJ45 Serial port of the appli-
ance, and connect the other DB9 end to a serial terminal
or to a workstation with terminal emulation software.
4. Connect the included AC power cords to the rear-panel
Power inlets of the appliance and connect the other
ends to a 120V or 200V power source.
4 — Power On the Appliance and
Verify the LEDs
To power on the appliance and verify it is operational:
1. Confirm the appliance power cords are securely con-
nected to a power source.
2. If the appliance does not automatically power on, press
the rear-panel soft Power switch.
NOTE: The state of the Power switch (on/off) is retained
when power is removed. This may necessitate pressing
the switch when reapplying power to the appliance.

3. As the appliance boots, verify the following:
The Power LED turns amber during the boot cycle.
Near the end of the boot cycle, the Power LED alter-
nates between green and amber, indicating an uncon-
figured state.
After the boot cycle has completed, the OLED panel dis-
plays the appliance model, serial number, and IP address.
The front-panel Power Status and System Status LEDs of
the appliance indicate the following states:

5 — Perform the Initial
Configuration and Setup
To perform the initial configuration for the appliance:
1. Establish a serial connection to the appliance:
Verify the rear-panel RJ45 Serial port of the appliance
is connected to a serial terminal or to a workstation with
terminal emulation software.
Open a terminal emulation program, such as Microsoft
HyperTerminal®, PuTTY, Tera Term, or ProComm™
and configure it to use the following settings:
Baud rate:
Parity: none
Flow control: none
2. Power on the appliance (if it is not already powered on)
and, when prompted, press Enter three times.
3. Press 2 to launch the Configuration Wizard, and then
press Enter to access ICW commands.
