Emergency charge recovery using portable generators
Use portable generators in an emergency where batteries cannot recover automatically from low
SoC or if SoC is below 2%.
There are two methods to perform emergency state of charge recovery. The first is a universal
method that works with all IQ System Controller types and all system eSW versions. That is the
advantage of this method. However, only the generator can charge the batteries, while the available
PV power cannot charge the batteries.
In the second method, both generator power and available PV power can charge the batteries, which
means faster recovery of the state of charge of the batteries. However, to use the second method,
the IQ system controller must support generator integration, which means that the IQ System
Controller must have dedicated generator lugs. Check the presence of dedicated generator lugs in
the IQ System Controller in
use the second method, the system eSW must be 7.03.XXX and above. This document will cover
identifying the system's eSW using different methods.
In summary, if you are unsure about the type/SKU of the IQ System Controller or eSW version of the
system, use the first method, which is recovery via IQ Combiner lugs, as discussed in detail in the rest
of the document. If you can identify the IQ System Controller type/SKU and the system eSW and
want to utilize a faster recovery method, use the second method, which is recovery via generator lugs.
This method also will be discussed in the rest of the documents.
WARNING
:
This procedure involves accessing high-voltage current-carrying conductors.
Only certified Enphase installers and qualified electricians should attempt this procedure.
NOTE: This procedure is only intended to recover the battery's state of charge. Do not use
this procedure to power home loads. The generator's permanent or extended use should be
commissioned in the system following the Enphase procedure defined in the
Generator integration with Enphase Energy System Tech
