    2 Description The QME 125 quadrupole electronics comprises the following assemblies: IS 125 Ion Source Supply Produces all operating voltages required for the various ion sources. A filament protection circuit is also included. RF 125 Radio-Frequency Produces the radio frequency signal with superimposed DC voltage required for Generator mass separation.

    4 Installation 4.1 Standard Installation Caution Caution: magnetic fields High-intensity magnetic fields caused by electrical motors or genera- tors or similar sources in close proximity to the ion source, C-SEM or SEM can lead to malfunctions of the instrument. Protect the instrument from the influence of high-intensity magnetic fields by arranging the system components appropriately or by install- ing magnetic shields.

    6.3 Alignment With (→ [2]) QMS 422 • Select a setting of SPEED, RANGE, and GAIN and possibly of SEM VOLTAGE which produces a sufficiently high peak of the corresponding mass number. • Switch SCAN to RESET (or SAMPLE-N at QMS 422) and SPEED to a slow setting in order to obtain good filtering.

    6.5 Cleaning Clean the unit as often as required, depending on the dust contamination. Cleaning the Outside Switch off the controller. A slightly damp cloth normally suffices for cleaning the outside of the unit. Do not use any aggressive or scouring cleaning agents. Make sure that no liquid can penetrate the product.
