Characteristics of the Network Functions One-Touch Document E-mail (Internet Facsimile Function) The image data that has been read is attached to the e-mail and transmitted to a PC or Internet Facsimile terminal via the Internet or intranet. You only need to specify an e-mail address similar to the case where you specify a telephone (fax) number when sending a document by facsimile.

E-mail RX-FAX Distribution E-mail RX-FAX Distribution Image data received from a facsimile unit through a general subscriber line is attached to an e-mail and transferred to a PC. The facsimile document can be received as an e-mail from your PC. Register the unit accounts in advance, and set F CODE and corresponding E-mail addresses to which documents are to be transferred.

One-Touch Network File TX (One-Touch Filing Function) One-Touch Network File TX (One-Touch Filing Function) Transmit the image data of the read document to your PC and save it in the predetermined folder. You can simply press the One-Touch key to save the paper document as an electronic file even in an environment without a mail server.

Network File Scanner (IP Scanner) Network File Scanner (IP Scanner) Transmit the image data of the read document to your PC, create the folder of the scanner key name, and save it. When you perform scanning, you can register a key (destination of the scanned image and scan settings) from the PC and press the key displayed on the product to easily save the paper document as an electronic file.

MFP Agent MFP Agent You can check the mail transmission/print status and alarm status such as loaded paper of the main unit, from your PC using a browser. The MFP Agent screen consists of the operation screen for general accounts and operation screen for administrators.

Setting up the mail server, etc. Setting up the mail server, etc. To use the network application functions of this product, you must configure the settings according to the network environment to which the product is connected. Before you start setup of the product, ask the network administrator to set up the items required for the product.

Setting up the mail server, etc. Setting a sub-net mask A sub-net mask consists of a network part and a sub-net part. In setting a sub-net mask, use the value shown in the table below for the network part of the sub-net mask, depending on the IP address.
Connecting to the LAN This product communicates using TCP/IP protocols via the LAN. Therefore, connection with a LAN using a LAN cable is necessary. To connect with a LAN, use a LAN cable (Fast Ethernet 100BASE-TX cable). Connecting a LAN cable Connect one end of a LAN cable to the inlet port (NETWORK) on the back panel of the product and the other end to a hub.

Connecting a LAN cable To use the unit with the NIC board (optional) of the printer Different IP addresses are required for the NIC board and the network application functions. The NIC board is installed in the right side of the back of the product. For more information on the NIC board, refer to the manual attached to the NIC board.
Installing Utilities To use the network application functions, you need to install the utilities on the PC according to your computer environment (OS). Before operation This section describes how to install IP Scanner. Utility Disk The Utility Disk provided with this product contains IP Scanner for Windows Me, Windows 98/95, Windows 2000, and Windows NT 4.0.

Do not install IP Scanner to a computer used as a mail server or a computer where a NOTE NOTE mail server is installed.

Checking Operations To check that the LAN connection and network settings are properly set up, check the operations. If it does not operate successfully, check the LAN cable connection and network settings again. Refer to Chapter 10 Troubleshooting of Network Application Operator’s Manual (electronic manual).
