2 Intended use
2.1 Operational restrictions
The device shall be used in conditions to protect the device from direct exposure to dust and corrosive
environments. The device must be used within its listed specifications.
The strength of a radio interference field at the location of the thickness gauge should not exceed the
value that disrupts the operability, i.e., creating a voltage at the input of the thickness gauge amplifier
that exceeds half the maximum sensitivity.
At high intensity of the radio interference field, measures should be taken to shield the location of the
thickness gauge from the external electromagnetic field.
The device can be used only by operators familiar with its operating documentation.
After transporting the device to the place of operation at a negative ambient temperature and
bringing it into a room with a positive temperature, it is advisable to store the device in the package for
not less than 2 hours to avoid failure due to moisture buildup.
2.2 Preparations for use
2.2.1 Visual inspection
Visually inspect the device and make sure there is no damage to the electronic unit, probe, connectors,
and connecting cable.
2.2.2 Installing the Batteries
Insert the batteries into the battery compartment by removing the screw and detaching the battery
compartment cover. The batteries are to be installed according to the polarity indicated on the device.
Close the battery cover and secure locking screw.
2.2.3 Probe connection
Using the connecting cable, connect the probe to the connectors on the top panel of the instrument. The
transmitting connector must be connected to the left socket (marked with a red label); the receiving
connector must be connected to the right socket (Fig. 2.1).
Note – Connecting and disconnecting the probe to the instrument is allowed only when the power supply
of the thickness gauge is turned off.
Warning!
To prevent damage to connectors and cables, follow the instructions for handling these connectors
below!
