I. Cam Plates
1. Remove shroud.
2. Lower handle to lowest position.
3. Disconnect handle wiring at insulated
terminals near motor.
4. Disconnect cable assembly and remove
release bar. (Section F)
5. Remove handle bolt (socket head shoulder
screw) and lift handle assembly out of
position. (Fig. 7)
At this point, check how the washers are
positioned between the lower handle cam plates
and bracket to ease reassembly. Place a small
amount of grease on the washer to hold them in
place against the cam plates.
6. Remove cam bolts (socket head shoulder
screws) that secure cam plates. Check
positioning for proper assembly. (Fig 7)
7. Remove spacers from inside handle.
These spacers are located on the two shoulder
bolts to prevent the internal wiring from being torn
by the bolt threads.
To reassemble cam plates:
1. Position cam plate and brass washer on
handle assembly.
2. Hold spacer with needle nose pliers and insert
into position while threading bolt through
handle and into spacer. (Fig. 8)
3. Install opposite plate and tighten nuts.
4. Reassemble handle to unit.
J. Pad driver alignment
Proper pad angle is critical to obtain optimum
performance. Pad alignment requires a special
fixture and procedure. If it is determined the
machine needs aligning, the machine should be
referred to a Hoover Company Factory owned
Service Center.
K. Pad driver
1. Remove pad lock (outlined in operation
section.)
2. Remove the three socket head cap screws to
hex head bolts (early models) and remove
pad driver.
