6 Start-up

The work described in this chapter is to be
performed only by personnel appropriately
qualified to carry out such tasks.
WARNING
!
Risk of personal injury due to pressurized
components and as a result of process me-
dium being discharged.
Incorrect opening of pressure equipment or
mounting parts may lead to the process me-
dium escaping to the atmosphere.
Î Do not unscrew the control line while the
valve is pressurized.
Î Do not start up the regulator until all
parts have been mounted.
WARNING
!
Crush hazard arising from moving parts.
The regulator contains moving parts (actua-
tor and plug stem), which can injure hands
or fingers if inserted into the valve.
Î Do not insert hands or fingers between
the set point springs while the regulator
is in operation.
Î Before performing any work on the regu-
lator, depressurize the plant. Disconnect
or shut off the external control line.

WARNING
!
Risk of hearing loss or deafness due to loud
noise.
Noise emission may occur during operation
caused by the process medium and the oper-
ating conditions.
Î Wear hearing protection when working
near the valve. Follow the instructions
given by the plant operator.
WARNING
!
Risk of burn injuries due to hot or cold
components and pipeline.
Regulator components and the pipeline may
become very hot or cold. Risk of burn inju-
ries.
Î Allow components and pipelines to cool
down or warm up to the ambient tem-
perature.
Î Wear protective clothing and safety
gloves.
Before start-up or putting the device back in-
to service, make sure the following condi-
tions are met:
− The regulator is properly installed in the
pipeline (see the 'Installation' chapter).
− The leak and function tests have been
completed successfully (see section 'Test-
ing the regulator' in the 'Installation'
chapter).
− The prevailing conditions in the plant
section concerned meet the regulator
sizing requirements (see section
'Intended use' in the 'Safety instructions
and measures' chapter).
