Pressure Relief Procedure

WARNING
INJECTION HAZARD
To reduce the risk of serious injury, in-
cluding fluid injection, splashing in the
eyes or on the skin, or moving parts,
always follow the Pressure Relief Procedure
whenever you:
D are instructed to relieve the pressure,
D shut off the pump,
D stop spraying,
D check or service any of the system equipment,
D or install or clean the spray tip/nozzle.
1. Engage the gun piston safety lock.
2. Shut off power to the feed pumps.
3. Shut off the air or hydraulic power supply.
4. On air powered pumps, close the pump air bleed
valve (G). On hydraulic pumps, close the supply
line shutoff valve (P).
5. Close both gun fluid manifold valves.
6. Disengage the gun piston safety lock.
7. Hold a metal part of the gun firmly to the side of a
grounded metal pail, and trigger the gun to relieve
pressure.
8. Engage the gun piston safety lock.
9. Turn both fluid pressure relief valves (L, required in
your system), to PRESSURE RELIEF, having a
container ready to catch the drainage.
10. Leave the fluid pressure relief valves open until
you are ready to dispense again.

Operation

If you suspect that the spray tip/nozzle or hose is
completely clogged, or that pressure has not been fully
relieved after following the steps above, very slowly
loosen the hose end coupling and relieve pressure
gradually, then loosen completely. Now clear the
tip/nozzle or hose.
Check the Hydraulic Fluid
Before starting the hydraulic power supply, check the
hydraulic fluid level. Add fluid as necessary to fill lines
to replace the amount used. Use only Graco approved
hydraulic oil. Order Part No. 169236, 5 gallon (19 liter)
or 207428, 1 gallon (3.8 liter).
Wet-Cup/Packing Nut
To reduce the risk of serious injury whenever you
are instructed to relieve pressure, always follow the
Pressure Relief Procedure at left.
Check the tightness of the packing nut/wet-cup (X)
periodically. The nut should be tight enough to prevent
leakage. Do not overtighten or you may damage the
packings. Relieve pressure before adjusting the nut.
See Fig. 5.
Keep the packing nut/wet-cup 1/3 full with ISO pump
lube at all times to help prevent the fluid you are
pumping from drying on the exposed displacement rod
and damaging the pump packings.
Flush the Pump Before First Use
The pump is tested with lightweight oil, which is left in
to protect the pump parts. If the fluid you are using
may be contaminated by the oil, flush it out with a
compatible solvent. See Flushing on page 13.
