Drive Bay Installation/Removal

Accessing the Drive Bays

SATA Drives: You do not need to access the inside of the chassis or remove power
to replace or swap SATA drives. Proceed to the next step for instructions.
Note: You must use 2.5" drives in the SuperServer 2027R-E1CR24L.
The chassis supports 24 hot-swappable hard drives. Only enterprise level SATA
HDDs are recommended for use in the SC216 chassis.
Removing Hard Drive Carriers from the Chassis
1. Press the release button on the drive tray. This extends the drive bay handle.
2. Use the handle to pull the tray out of the chassis.
Adding Optional Drives to Rear of Chassis
Two 2.5" hot-swap drives may be added to the rear of the chassis with the required
kit (p/n MCP-220-82609-0N), which includes the hard drive assembly, data cables
and screws. Please install the kit as follows (see Figure 6-1 for drive bay location).
1. Remove the two screws from the top and the single screw from the bottom of
the plate that covers the empty bay, then remove the plate.
2. Insert the drive assembly into the bay and secure it to the chassis with four
screws (three in the same location just removed and an additional screw at
the bottom of the assembly on the end that inserted into the chassis).
3. Attach the data cables and a 4-pin power cable from the power supply.
