10 DESCALING

Scale normally forms with the use of the appliance;
descaling is necessary every 3-4 months of use of
the machine and/or when there is a reduction in
water fl ow.
If you want to descale the machine yourself,
you can use a non-toxic and/or non-harmful
descaling product for coffee machines, commonly
available in the shops.
We recommend using Saeco descaling solution.
Warning! Never use vinegar as a descaler.
Make sure the pannarello is installed.
• Remove the water tank and empty out the remain-
ing water.
• Mix the descaling solution with water as specifi ed
on the package of the descaling product and fi ll
the water tank; insert the tank into the machine.
• Turn on the machine by pressing the main
switch.
• Insert a container below the steam spout.

• At intervals, remove (one cup at a time) the whole
content of the water tank by turning the steam knob
counterclockwise and pressing the coffee button;
to stop dispensing press the coffee button again
and turn the steam knob clockwise.
• During each interval allow the descaling solution to
take effect for about 10-15 minutes, disconnecting
the machine by means of the main switch. Empty
the container.
• When the descaling solution is fi nished, extract
the water tank, rinse it and fi ll it with fresh drinking
water.
• Reinsert the water tank into the machine; empty 2/3
of its content by turning the steam knob counter-
clockwise and pressing the coffee button; to stop
dispensing press the coffee button again and turn
the steam knob clockwise.
• Allow the machine to warm up and empty out the
remaining content of the water tank by turning the
steam knob counterclockwise and pressing the
coffee button. To stop dispensing press the coffee
button again and turn the steam knob clockwise.
If you are using a product other than the
recommended one, it is important to always
follow the manufacturer's instructions shown on
the package of the descaling product.
