Fault
The machine does not
turn on.
The pump is very noisy.
The coffee is too cold.
Milk froth does not form.
It is not possible to
prepare a cappuccino.
Coffee cannot be
brewed.
The coffee is brewed
too fast, the cream does
not form.
Coffee is not brewed or
brewed in drips only.
Coffee flows out of the
edges.
Please contact the service centre for any faults not covered in the above table or when the suggested
solutions do not solve the problem.

Possible cause
The machine is not connected to
the power supply.
There is no water in the tank.
The temperature ready led was
flashing when the coffee button
was pressed.
The filter-holder is not inserted
for preheating (chapter 5).
The cups are cold.
The milk is not suitable:
powdered milk, low-fat milk.
There is no more steam in the
boiler.
The cappuccinatore is dirty.
Machine overtemperature,
the machine ready led flashes
quickly.
There is too little coffee in the
filter-holder.
The grinding is too coarse.
The pod is too old.
The "Illy" key has not been
pressed.
There is no water.
There is too much coffee in the
filter-holder.
The "hot water/steam" dispenser
is open.
The machine is calcified.
The filter in the filter-holder is
clogged.
The pod is not suitable.
The filter-holder is incorrectly
inserted in the brew group.
The upper edge of the filter-
holder is dirty.
The gasket of the boiler is dirty.
The pod is wrongly inserted.
Solution
Connect the machine to the power supply.
Refill with water (paragraph 4.4).
Wait until the led turns permanently on.
Preheat the filter-holder.
Preheat the cups on the warming plate.
Use whole milk.
Prime the circuit (paragraph 4.5) and repeat
the operations describe in chapter 6.
Clean the cappuccinatore as described in
chapter 9.
Prime the circuit as described in paragraph
4.5. When the machine ready led is
permanently on, coffee may be brewed.
Add coffee (chapter 5).
Use a different blend.
Replace the old pod with a new one.
Press the "Illy" key and wait until the
machine ready led is permanently on.
Refill with water (paragraph 4.4).
Reduce the quantity of coffee in the filter-
holder.
Close the dispenser.
Descale the machine (chapter 10).
Clean the filter (chapter 9).
Change type of pod.
Insert the filter-holder correctly (chapter 5).
Clean the edge of the filter-holder.
Clean the gasket.
Insert the pod correctly.
